If you are ever traveling through Central Wisconsin, Portage County, consider stopping at a couple of places.
Schulfer’s Garden Center has 1.5” “river rock/gravel” for landscaping that is loaded with agates, jaspers and fossils. If you talk real nice to them, you might be able to purchase a 5 gallon pail for minimal cost. Many local businesses and individuals use this for landscape rock. Some use it for driveways. They are located in Plover.

Also, a stop at Stone Innovations in Plover would be worth you time if you are interested in counter scraps. Even though they have a grinder now for scraps, they cannot keep up with grinding. The last time I was there, the scrap pile was about 100’ long by 12’ high, by 15’ wide. Loaded with mostly what they call Granite, but it is a variety of natural stones. Some pieces are 6’ long. Some are a couple of inches. The pile also contains composite Quartz scraps. There are usually some oval cut outs for sinks that are intact. These make wonderful stepping stones for gardens.
The large display area of counter slabs is amazing. I spend some time there just looking at their selection. The slabs come from around the world.
Stop by the main office and say you do lapidary work and would like to look through their scrap pile. Easy vehicle access. They allow trailers for those who want a lot of scraps. No problem with climbing the pile of scraps, but wear appropriate boots. Have gloves.

Here are a few finds today from my driveways. All of the rain and washouts, caused more cool rocks to be exposed. I am searching daily on my way back from the barn. These are agates, fossils, jaspers and some cool quartz/jasper combos. The driveway gravel came from Schulfer’s.
I love the banded quartz at the bottom.
Lower left shows a cool rock with oolites. These are common in landscape gravel here. find a lot on my land.
