What day and time specifically should we target, if we only have one day to be there? Well that's a bit subjective and depends on your goals. If I was focused on getting the best high quality slabs that I can find with only one day to shop I would hit the PowWow show on Thursday the 16th. A lot of vendors are still setting up on Wednesday and by Friday the crowds descend on it for the weekend. That being said there are such a massive amount of slab vendors that there will be plenty of quality material available for the duration of the show. If your goal is good quantities of quality rough rock then Desert Gardens show is pretty steady but get there as early in January as you can - again before the crowds descend on the area for the PowWow show. If your goal is meeting a bunch of good folks from RTH and the lapidary/rockhound community in general then come on Saturday the 18th and stick around for Tony's BBQ at Desert Gardens. Tommy, PowWow show starts January 15th this year. We are supposed to start set up on the 13th but not allowed to sell until the 15th although some will ignore this rule. There are new organizers this year (Sandy retired sort of) and they might be more strict on the rules. I agree with the rest of what you said.

Bill orrum Glad to hear you are on the Mends and getting Better! We plan on leaving around the 3rd and getting to Quartzsite B-10 RV Park around the 6th maybe sooner. We plan on staying in AZ 2 months and heading back early March. I have had a LONG LIST of things to do and with the Holidays it has been quite a challenge getting everything done! Look fwd to seeing everybody. I looked at the Cell PH Coverage Map we have sprint and they are worthless Looks like T-MOBILE is the way to go. Hate to tell you but cell phone coverage in Quartzsite is a crap shoot usually. There are just too many people there all trying to use the same towers. I have Verizon and it works sometimes there. I know nothing of T-Mobile or Spring.

She has an RV and now lives in Quartzsite and she says that TMOBILE TV Box and cell phone is the way to go she also has been rockhounding and says she cant wait till we get there. My Old Boss at the County now lives in GoodYear AZ and so we plan to see him later. We also have another friend that MaryJane goes to craftshows with her and her husband lives somewhere down there too so after the show we have somethings to do and people to see. Gotta go take the turkey out of oven and put the ham in. 12:59 PM and still going!

I think we generally said the same thing but I didn't know vendors got a couple of days head start on setting up. I have found that the Wednesday show opener day still seems to have a lot of vendors in setup mode. My favorite day is Thursday because the show is really humming along and the Fri/Sat/Sun crowds haven't come in yet.

The vendors are supposed to start setting up on Monday but like you pointed out some are slow to set up. I get there early so I don't have to rush with setting up plus I can get my paperwork out of the way before the "rush". I think Wednesday is a good day to look around because there are fewer people there. I agree Thursday is a good day to visit the show. The weekend is busier but it's fun people watching too.

Verizon is what works where my mom lives so that's what I use. Sounds like you'll be kept busy when you get to Quartzsite. Hope to see you there.

Well with a Heavy Heart I have to say We most likely will not be going to Quartzsite this year, at least in time to see everybody. Yesterday I had a Dr. Apt. A follow up from a check up with the Dr. 2 weeks ago which was a yearly physical. I told him I had a sore on my tongue that was bothering me. He told me come back in two weeks. Well yesterday he told me the bad news, he thinks it is Oral Cancer and from what I have read in the link spreads pretty fast. He wants me to see a Ear, Nose, and throat specialist and I have one thjat I use for my ears. MaryJane called today and has an appt on the 10th. Today I got the Mail Shute Installed in the garage door. for a mail drop slot so I have now finished my list of things that needed to be done which included putting in a new furnace that has been sitting in the basement for 4 years, Wood Stops on all windows, Front door Jam and deadbolt replacement, Work on RV Generator Carb rebuilt, Sink Trap Replaced, Roof Fixed, New Battery Gen and Coach, Battery Maintainers Gen & Coach. So I am hoping that It heals in the next 10 days and he clears me. I will be working everyday like we are still going but I can use all the prayers I can get. We have really been blessed with mild weather. Sunday was 60 deg yesterday we finally seen some winter weather. It was fun cutting and installing the mail shute in this cold weather see picture below. My last batch of rocks for this year will go to the last stage 4 tomorrow, and will finish them up Friday and I planned on leaving when those were finished. I was really looking fwd to meeting you all but guess it most likely be later.

Prayers going up for you TheRock that everything gets taken care of quickly and you're healthy in no time. Hope you make it to Q this year, but if not, there's always next year. The most important thing is taking care of yourself first.

Sorry to see that news, Bob TheRock. Hope things go well. I've gone through the thread again, and I've not really seen much of a mention of an RTH get together at Tony's catmandewe for the Friday before the Saturday BBQ. Tony, has there been any further discussion about this? What I liked about the RTH night was that it was primarily RTH folks with the number not being too big. It made it alot easier to make the rounds and meet members. Our schedule has caused us to leave on Saturday, so we will probably miss the BBQ that day. We pretty much plan on spending the day at DG on Friday.
