I wanted to try this again using polished rocks. I used Mookaite (5 of them), Tiger Eye (2) and the rest were local solid color (mostly) rocks. I loaded the crockpot with 1 cup kitty litter, then the rocks, another cup of kitty litter on top of the rocks, then two layers of insulation under the lid. The first photo is the crockpot ready to go and the other 2 are before and after photos. Polished Mookaite and Tiger Eye I had on hand and were suggested by others to be good candidates for color enhancement. This run was to see how both polish and color might be affected by heat in a crockpot. The recipe was 1 day on low heat,1 day on high heat and 1 day to cool off. I measured surface kitty litter temperature at various times during the 3 days...low heat topped out at about 280 degrees (Fahrenheit) and Hi heat at 350 (ish) degrees. After 3 days I could see no change in polish quality and no noticeable color changes. So now I'm in agreement with others that said crockpots aren't hot enough (had to find out for myself) and I'm looking for a cheap roaster for part three of this cooking class.. Ready to go Before After

You would have better heat distribution if the rocks were stirred in with the sand. Like stew. Good luck. I hope you try it again.
