Changed one of my 3 pound barrels this morning, it just finished a week in 500 grit. I'm kind of experimenting with this batch and I know I'm deviating from the norm but so far so good. It's a mix of cabs and tumbles. After the coarse stage I am using pellets and rinsing them off for the next stage. I'm also tumbling obsidian cabs that I made with everything else. I guess I'll know in a couple of weeks if I made some bad decisions or not. Anyway, just wanted to share a few of them since I had them out in the fresh air...thanks for looking.

Be careful with moving the pellets from stage to stage. I tried that with my first Apache Tear Tumble. The pellets were grey. They had some of the Tear grindings embedded in them. I now have stage specific plastics for both hard and soft rocks.
I tumble cabs and rocks together. So far, so good.
Nice items you are tumbling. Love the 2 on the left. The bottom one looks like Devil's Toenail or similar.

Maybe I'll use a fresh batch when I put them in the polish. We'll see. I've tumbled them together before also. The rule I'm a little nervous about breaking is tumbling the obsidian with the agates. But so far so good. Yeah, they're a nice assortment. Of course there are more in the barrel, but the heart is Snowflake Obsidian ( manofglass ), then Indonesian Palm Root ( rockjunquie ), Crazy Lace ( manofglass again), the Devil's Toenail or similar , Turritella, and Mahogany Obsidian ( manofglass ). I'm lucky to have such good friends here on RTH- I love tumbling self-collected stones, but it's fun to get super cool rocks from others. Variety is a good thing!

You should be OK with the obsidian and agate in the same polish, especially because you also have media. I am wishing you luck and hope it works out. Those are nice rocks.

There is really no such thing as too many pictures.

What rules......?.......LOL However, redundancy grows old quickly...... Good point, sir. I honestly didn't want to wait any longer for more obsidian. I have a bunch, but my barrels are full of other stuff so I threw the cabs in. As far as not changing the pellets at each stage...well, maybe that's just the laziness in me!
