Hello!
Sorry if this is the wrong forum!
So after nearly 2 years of tumbling I’d like to step up from my 33B.
I can’t find one for sale other than Walmart/Amazon for almost $300.
There is one on eBay but it’s 110v only. Anyone have opinion/experience with this? What’s the voltage of the regular one?
Also Lortone themselves sell them. Do these take a long time to ship?
Thank you!

QT66 good upgrade choice. You can buy a 12# barrel later on if desired, same frame for 1 twelve or 2 sixes.
Rock Shed sells them. Kingsley North sells them. Hayneedle sells them.

You can buy one direct from Lortone for about $250 lortone.com/products/model-qt66You will like it. I also used the 33b and upgraded to a qt66. Not only the volume you can tumble is more, but they take less time in the 1st stage since there is a bigger tumble.

I was under the impression that all QT-12 and QT-66 are 110v, unless they are manufacturing them for sale outside the US. It's actually a very small motor. Definitely doesn't need higher voltage to lower current draw.

I also highly recommend the QT66 - I have two of them! I bought one direct from Lortone and they shipped fairly quickly. I think I also bought one from the Rock Shed, and he always ships super fast. I also have two of the Lortone 45c which is a size in between the 33b and QT6.

I use the QT66 also, and it came from The Rock Shed. You can't go wrong with them. I'm using a 33b also, when I get enough out of the QT66 I finish them off in the 33b.

Kingsley North has one in stock and it’s on the way!
Stage 1 taking less time is most welcome!
How many Tablespoons of 60-90 does everyone recommend per barrel?

Lortone says 10 tbs. per 6# barrel. That's what I use and it seems to work well.

Some folks use the rule of one tablespoon per pound of rock. I make it easy and just use one half cup for my six pound barrels and 1 full cup for 12 pound barrels so that's 8 tablespoons and 16 tablespoons. Stepping up to the six pound barrels you may also benefit from trying 46/70 instead of 60/90. Chuck

Why the courser grit? Does the larger barrel allow it to move more freely? You have more material weight in the barrel which can effectively break down the larger grit.

Makes the first stage go more quickly. Probably not to be used for just any rock (if the rock is going to undercut, coarser grit will make it worse), but works good for hard agates an such.

Another vote for 30 or 36 grit in the QT66

Ok thank you for the advice! I’m going to order the grit now. My first batch in the 66 will be blue lace agate

Another vote for 30 or 36 grit in the QT66 I've been using 80 grit since I started in my QT66. It's almost gone, I think I'm going to give 36 a try since I tumble mostly agates. Thanks!

Been using 30 grit in 6# barrels for stage one for a while. Definitely speeds things along a bit. If you go this route keep an eye on the lid gaskets. I've ground through two right in the center of the gasket where the little domed bottom of the threaded stub is. Patched them with a tire repair kit and got them to run for a while longer but the coarse grit eventually wears it again.

It slows down wear on the lid gasket.
