Hey guys!
I'm new to Lapidory myself and so far I'm now three barrels deep after only a month and considering a vibratory. Any tips as such no matter how stupid they may seem are appreciated. I guess to introduce myself further, my name is Will. I am a graphic designer by trait, used to teach in the subject in the past as well. I have a hobby of making video games via unity and C++ as well as of course now, rock tumbling. I feel great about doing this, the kids are excited, as is the girlfriend.
My experience stared by crawdad "hunting" with my girlfriends kids, her son was getting upset so I tried to turn it around. I told him when I didn't catch fish back when I was a kid, when I was frustrated I'd just start finding stones I liked. Just then I saw a glimmer under the water and walked over to it and picked up a piece of pyrite embedded in a rock the size of my fist. I honestly thought for a second.. As a kid, whoaaaa!~ gold? He was excited as hell and he had a great time the rest of the day. I tried to find more pieces for him and we had a lot of fun.
When we got back I noticed that my dad had a rock tumbler in his cabin sitting collecting dust. ~He had bought me a tumbler as a kid because I was interested in it, however I didn't live with my dad, I only saw him on a two-week basis for a weekend... Anyhow, I saw the tumbler and we had the rocks, that's all it takes from my stand point.. NOPE.
I've been reading up, I'm trying to learn, but for example..
1st tumble: River rocks, mostly quartz or to hope *same moh scale I hope* I haven't been scratching my rocks etc to make sure, I'm going by eye.
() Started on second stage, skipped coarse.
*Note that by the time my second tumble should have started... I've already ordered a two barrel tumbler, 1 lb of lapis lazuli, 3lb of natural rough.. (I thought I ordered some empty set rings, but I didn't finish the cart)
2nd tumble: River rocks check out, pics taken in separated piles, pre-polish started.
*second tumbler received the day before, two barrel tumbler. A fresh tumble was started on this unit as such;
Barrel A: Lapis and rough gems mix solely, coarse grit (******* I worry about this, I'm throwing in a mix bag as such, I've a feeling I F'd this up so to speak mixing densities as such)
Barrel B: More river rock, stage 2.
Well guys, that's where I'm at right now, checked the barrel on the coarse for gasses as such, etc. I can describe more in depth as best I can however....
I FORGOT TO LABEL MY BARRELS!!!!~~ AAARGH
I know the single is my river rock first tumble now on its pre-polish
The other two are a mystery.. Is there a way to determine the slurry type?!? That would be awesome.. Does Coarse slurry look different from 2nd stage?
Look forward to talking to all of you and listening to what you have to share. Thanks!
