I ordered some more of the larger Polly Plastic ceramics. I think my mix had too many smalls for my flats. I had been using dollar store small rocks and ceramics. For my next batch of flats (should go in Sun) I'm gonna try only a small amount of dollar store rocks and more ceramics which will contain more of the larger ones. It's gonna be a mixed batch of flats and some of them are expensive, so I want to maximize my odds of success. How does this sound to you guys?

For me, it's tough to say, as I've not done alot of flats specifically. But, since I do cut down rocks to resize, I end up with a fair amount of flat surfaces at times. I've only used mixed ceramics. I buy small and large and mix them together in a container to create my mixed size batch. I've not been disappointed with the results. But, if I do have a fair amount of flat surface to deal with, my ratio of ceramics to rocks is increased to almost 50/50. Otherwise, I try to be around 33/66 (ceramics/rocks).

Thanks, aDave. I have a bunch ground, drilled and ready to go. I'll separate them this time between hard and soft. I have notorious beginner's luck. I think my first batch came out super nice, even with the mixed hardnesses. I'm not gonna take a chance this time.

One other thing, rockjunquie. Did you mean to write "poly plastic" ceramics? I only assumed you simply meant ceramics and not something else. If you meant plastic only, said material isn't for a vibe.

Do you guys run polish with ceramics? I do. Me too. Anytime I run the Lot-O it has ceramics in the mix. I can probably safely say that everyone else here that uses ANY sort of vibe does the same. If I'm wrong about "every other vibe," then I'll just say I'm speaking to the Lot-O directly.

I put in a small load of hard flats with mostly large ceramics with some small mixed. My soft load is the one I am most interested in seeing the results of. It'll have to wait since I only have one tumbler.

I go to the auto glass and have them save me some broken glass from the side windows, that and agate smalls.

I ran the agates in 500 grit for 2.5 days and they look pretty good. In polish now. I threw in a Montana agate and bot that I did before but still had a gritty surface for lack of a better word. They didn't come out any different. I had a thread about them before. There is kinda like orange peel on them and the thought was maybe it was from the first stage. Well, I don't think that was the case. I'll see how they come out after final polish. The rest look good. Probably could be better, maybe. We'll see.
