We were at the Sedona gem show yesterday and one of our fellow club members had a booth there. He was asking if we could ID a stone for him, but we couldn't. Our best guess was that it might be some type of wood, but really we don't know. Does anyone recognize this stone?
Thanks!

It reminds me of tiger tail from Mexico, but the pattern is a little bit different than the piece that I have.

I have several slabs of Pet Wood with nearly identical patterns as the longer stone on the right.

My first thought was obsidian but figured you all would recognize that, some arizona wood has the black and reds. would be nice to have the stone in hand.

I wonder if it could be some sort of Granite or Unakite. I picked up a small piece of something very similar at a show here in Australia a few weeks ago, I made it into a cab but wasn't overly impressed so now its in the tumbler, should be out in a few days. The black areas are a bit sparkly like Hematite but could be Biotite I suppose. It looks almost identical to the right hand one.

Definitely not obsidian. The black is a solid black with no sparklies anywhere on it. The green in the right side cab is what really has me befuddled.

Thanks!

The left side of the long piece is a mixed light green color in hand. Think I've seen that color around the "rind" of some Hubbard Basin wood.

The slabs I have were bought in 2 places - from an unknown seller at a gem & mineral show/sale put on by the Patuxent Lapidary Society in Annapolis, MD and another from ddrockshop.com/. DDrockshop is somewhere out in the mid-west, but can't remember which state. They are very nice folks and I have mentioned them here in other threads. I'd bet they'd share their source location if you asked. You'll also see cool slabs for cutting there. I know you're into opal - haven't seen any there, but lots of opalite. Good luck.

hummingbirdstones I'm a little late to the game here, but it could be cheetah agate from Brazil. I have chunks of cheetah agate that look just like the piece on the left. The best material looks very much like a cheetah, but a lot of it looks very similar to the photo you posted. Here are a few slabs I cut yesterday. This has more "cheetah" than your photo, but when I cut some slabs that look more like your photo I'll post them. Takes a high shine, too, just like your photo.
