I personally tumble to get rocks rounded the 3 days in vibe at 220 three days in Vibe in 500 three days in Polish. If any are rough I would Tumble in 80G till rounded and smooth the smooth ones you can pull but use different size media while rotary tumbling. Good luck!

Well @oldhound said 120G no you should not use 120G After your Tumbling you use 220G as far as 120/220 are you really saving that much using 120/220 vs Graded 220? When you use a Lot"O" vibe you only use 1 tsp for 220 1/2 tsp 500 and 1/2 tsp of polish so the vibe uses very little grit in comparison to the tumbler. I just stay within the bounds of the 220, 120/220 may work does anyone out there use 120/220? It may work I dunno me personally I will stay w/ 220. No need in changing my recipe to save a couple pennies.

I was considering switching to all graded grit just because I like precision.
Also, I use 1/2 tsp 120/220 in my Lot O. No other additives. 1 tsp seems to cause me trouble in the bottom of the barrel even though I have mine modified all to heck, enough to create foam yet not bruise anything.
Edit: Someday I will do a writeup of my Lot O Twin mods. Not done yet though, but close!
Famous Eric edit #2: It was the 2 tbsp of grit that concreted it. That is a ton of grit for a Lot O. Not even mine at full force can handle that.

I was just wondering if I needed to order graded 220 grit when I get a vibe, as it’s cheaper when buying them together or if I could just continue using the 120/220 that I already have. I’m just glad that I came across this before the time came and I used the 120/220 and possibly ruined my rocks. One good thing about being broke, is that it gives me plenty of time to research and learn as much as I can for when the time comes to apply it all. Though I really think I need to get a log book and start writing everything down soon, as I know I’ll forget everything when the time comes. There’s just so much to learn and I’m very thankful to all of the knowledgeable people here for all of their help and wisdom.

Use less if it's a larger grit size until you get a feel for it.
For 4.5 lb capacity I use 1/2 tsp of your 120/220

That’s cool. I’ll try my leftover 120/220 on a batch of my crappy rocks, which are plentiful anyway to see how they turn out. Hate to waste. Many thanks for the input.

Don’t have one yet. I’m just trying to learn and be prepared and figure out what I need to get, but plan on getting the UV-10 pound vibe.

Also you will need extra bowls down the line, especially if you like to experiment with heavy grit like I do.
And remember, RV antifreeze instead of water will allow you to use it year round if you can stand rinsing rocks outside during winter. Eco friendly, non toxic, -50 freeze protection. Methyl alcohol and water. Windshield washer fluid, -25, ethyl alcohol and water. Also eco friendly.
Or rinse them off inside into a bucket and then toss that outside.

Antifreeze or windshield wiper fluid. Omg super genius. Has anyone else ever thought of or tried this? I just recently stopped tumbling due to my first blowout, but I’m not sure what caused it. It could’ve been one or more of many things.... Tumbler was to full. The kitty litter I used or possibly to much of it which may have made the slurry to thick. Or the cold weather. I just figured I’d better call it quits until it gets warmer and then try to narrow it down further.

I suppose it could also be caused by freezing, as well. I don't use clay (kitty litter) as I have plenty of liquid rock dust accumulated having never thrown out my slurry (I keep it in empty windshield washer fluid jugs until I fill a new one). After 72 hours into a fresh coarse grind they usually make their own thick slurry. If not I add a half cup of old stuff. We have totally hijacked the thread and should move to PM

Jugglerguy Rob uses 2 tablespoons too, but I can't even get one to work without it clumping in the bottom. I tried everything I could think of to get that to work

Anyway. FWIW 1/2 teaspoon of 120/220 and barely wet rocks/ceramics works good for me. Develops a slurry almost right away, gets pretty muddy and needs water by 12 hours in.

What I usually do is start during the day or a few hours before I sleep so I can add some squirts of water until it's stable, checking about every hour or so. Then wake up and add more, then check about every 8 to 12 hours minimum. If you think you will be away for too long, add a few more squirts than it really needs. When the slurry is developed you don't need to be really precise with over-diluting it, it will carry grit even if it's a tiny bit thinner than optimal.
