Hello, welcome to the forum, from blustery Wisconsin.
The TV-5 has been getting some interest in this forum. At least one user starts out with 60/90 grit but most would say to use 120 or smaller to prolong the bowl life. Aluminum oxide would be better for 500 and up because it smooths more than the silicon carbide. I’m not sure what alternatives you speak of. If it’s soft material, there are a few dry tumbling recipes out there. One nice thing, the TV-5 won’t use nearly as much grit as the equivalent rotary tumbler.

Sorry to speak off topic, but where in Wisconsin are you from? I'm in Madison and yeah, it's very blustery here tonight! Also thinking of getting a TV-5 for my polish stage, so good to know the ins and outs of it as well.
