Knave, the sand grain size article was very informative. We lived in Sonora, Texas for several years in the late 70's and the man next door helped inject the sand and other materials into the wells as part of the process for increased production. I never would have guessed that grain size was adjusted for either oil or gas production.

jamesp Frac sand is round and gets injected at extreme pressures to hold open the fissures deep underground. Some premium and valuable sand is mined in my home county. But the shipping is the killer. We don’t have oil here. They grade and screen the particle sizes and clean the dirt out and then dry the sand. So you end up with nearly perfect round silica balls of equal size. Never knew such existed. I know river sand is mined for rounder sand for mortar to make troweling easier.. And crushed granite sand is for interlocking strength in concrete with Portland.called sharp sand. Had to look it up. Check out these little round babies. Frack sand. I want a tiny sling shot now. Perhaps a glacier product ? if you find your way over here, there is a sand facility just north of Cotulla and they MIGHT let you have some of their spillage, that is all frac sand. Or if you live near oil you can usually find it spilled on the roadside, it will look white. do not pick up Yellow sand, Yellow sand is chemically treated, resin i think, and is supposedly very toxic.

jamespGlad you weighed in. I agree foam is not good. By the way how are you? I haven’t communicated with you in a while. Did you see my big sapphire? I’m really proud of it.

are there any canadian members who could advise some websites in canada to order grit from? i would normally order the grit from the rock shed but 106 USD shipping for 5 pound order of grit is just to much.

Grit is expensive in Canada, apparently! ethos have you called the Rock Shed or another US supplier and asked specifically about shipping, or is that a shipping quote off their website?

A mfrb must be under 15 lbs to ship to Canada and I costs around $40 I think.

Silicon carbide is very rare in nature. Basically 100% of what we buy is produced in kilns.

I second jamesp about the non-clumping kitty litter - it solved my foaming problem immediately

I have asked them Specifically 106 dollars min if i order their 5 pound grit kit they could fit it in a smaller box for 50 dollars USD if im willing to lose a pound of grit and only order the grit.

Sheesh! yea i was hoping to order the grit, some tumbling media, a sifting screen and possible some rocks but with that shipping cost and exchange rate cause a 100 dollar order is already getting close to 140 with the exchange rate the plus the shipping looking at close to 300 dollars without tax, i just can't do it lol gotta hope i can find somewhere in canada that has what i need i found a few websites that sell the lortone 5 pound grit kits for 140-200 CAD but still the price is a bit off putting.
