Hello friends, I know someone who desperately wants to get rid of her recently deceased father's cabochon collection. It's quite big. I have seen this collection and can tell you that it's full of lots of beautiful cabs. Malachite, Montana Moss agates, turquoise, picture jasper to name a few. I'm guessing the total number of pieces is in the thousands. She lives in Longmont, Colorado, which is the Denver-Metro area. Can anyone advise me on how she can find someone who might be interested in buying the collection? Thanks. Marc thats tough one check with local dealers may be or gem club to see when the local shows might be see if she can get in that

fire ledge is up one the ledge of the canyon dead camel is in There was a gentleman I met at the rock show here that he had some stuff called Dead Ringer. I'm assuming this is also from that same area? Is the Fire Ledge available in rough? And who would we get some from? its kinda a long story but ill give you the short of it the guy that had dead camel had a claim on it a fiend of mine found another deposit outside of his claim area and took some to sell at quartsite the original claim owner found out about it and called him a thief and spit in his face lol so my friend closed his booth and went straight to nevada and file claim on the new deposit found and called it dead ringer lol

I feel like there was a thread about this pretty recently but I couldn't find it, well there's probably a few of them. Anyway I just wanted to vent more about slab prices. Seems like $50 is average these days, which makes me wonder why the heck? Are people buying slab saws and planning their retirement through them? I don't understand how clamping a rock in a vise and pressing a button deserves doubling the value? I'm genuinely curious. If you're a slab seller - what markup do you shoot for? 100%? I get it, there's shipping, time spent shopping at shows, time spent running the saw, dud investments. But holy cow if you're making a living off slabbing, how does anyone down the line make a living? I feel like the cabber or end-stage artist is investing the most time in the whole process from quarry to jewelry, yet I feel like they have the tightest margins. If I charge minimum wage for the time invested in a set cabochon, it'd be hundreds of dollars. Obviously there's no market for that. Not to mention the room full of equipment that I need to invest in that is probably more expensive than the slab saw. Maybe I'm wrong, but I guess I just wish slab sellers were a little more honest or humble about what it cost them. its really based o the cost of the material you also have to take into account on dead loss meaning thin blade you loose a slab every 4-5 cuts then i mark up usally about 45-50% some stuff i list in my auctions are below my cost even

Hi all. I got the box today! Did a quick open and everything looks good, as in it looks like nothing broke. And boy, this is actually going to be tough! There is some really fun stuff in there from everyone. I am heading back to work now and then my Fridays and Saturdays are my longest days with double shifts. I 'can' get this box back in the mail for Saturday morning but I'd be doing it hastily in the wee hours of the morning between shifts. I feel like I'd do a better job if I mailed it Monday. Does that delay it too much for the next people? As far as I'm concerned...take the extra days. It's no fun if you're being rushed. I AGREE

The point of this is NOT the auction. It's to have a good time. In the past, there was always a mixture of good and bad rocks. But, you have to remember-- one man's trash is another man's treasure. People put in what they can and not everyone can add the "good stuff". I hope that no one feels like they need to pass up what they love to keep it in the box for the auction. At the same time, don't hoard the good stuff. If you have mundane rocks, try to add more to make up for what you are taking. Lots of things have ended up in the box- templates, finished tumbles, tools, special cabs... Add what you can people. These boxes always end up with more than what they start with and have always had a good mixture for everyone. We don't usually have an auction for what is left. The box goes around and what's left starts a new box. Don't get hung up by the auction. It'll all work out. Have fun. No hard feelings.
Thanks for saying this. All last night I was worrying that whatever I put in the box would be considered crap by some people and that I should just drop out. 😂 I am pretty new to this hobby, and I thought this traveling box was meant to be a fun way to get to know some people better, to have some fun looking at beautiful rocks and help make this forum (which has been instrumental to my growth as a tumbler) a little bit of money. this is why i did it so that everyone could enjoy it like i did when i was new here dont stress about weather or not your stuff is grand all that matters is that it was to you and you traded it for something in the box

Well that seemed quick! 🪨📦 Box on the move already! pebblesky Thanks for the pics. Answered my question about whether or not stuff might be labeled or if we’ll need to identify it ourselves. Looks like some is and some other more commonly known ones aren’t. Will be fun! Most are labeled but the markers on some of the plastic bags are smeared. I guess that green/blue tumble bag is Turquoise, but not sure. the green blue is arizona shattuckite for tumbling

The whole fun part for me is not knowing what's in the box. Enjoy going through it, pick out a few pieces, replace them with other stuff and send it down the road. Then post pics of what you snagged. From the rule set by Roy, it seems we are supposed to take pictures what have been taken out and what have been replaced back in and share with the members. From Roy, I should also take pictures of the original content of the box once I receive it, but it is not yet clear to me if I should share the content of the original box with the members or not, or just keep it as archive. when you get it you get to show a pre-view after that its post what you took and replaced it with thats how i remember it being ! but if the group just wants to be surprised you can leave out the pre-view

Very nice super clean work and attractive pieces. The choice of colors in the pieces work well together. Did you cut and polish the stones yourself. Thx for sharing can’t wait to see what you come up with next thx yes
