There's a video of someone using whiskey in their drip tank while faceting, but I cannot find the video.

Will red wolves and coyotes mate? Read a little bit on the reintroduction of the red wolf and wondered.

Hi, Toad, when will you and your son leave for the collecting trip? Although we live in LaGrange, and have never been to the Hogg, many other forum members may share their experiences with you at the site. I think it's around 35/person to enter the site. hoggmine.com/We've had a LOT of rain, and LaGrange was declared state of emergency around Christmas, which the rain would mean more pretty crystals to find. It looks like the mine is open though! lagrangenews.com/floodPlease let me know when you plan on making your trip, and maybe we can meet you at the site? If you and your son head into Georgia around April or October, there's also free dig at Graves Mountain. www.gamineral.org/ft/commercial/ftgravesmain.htmlGeorgia started mining gold in the late 20's ('29, I think), and there's a couple of gold mines that folks may visit with tours, and a gold museum, in Dahlonega. (ETA: GA Gold Rush in 1829) You'll see the Gold Mine Package in the middle of the webpage, but I'll post the link: dahlonega.org/see-do/discover-golddahlonega.org/see-do/discover-gold/437-gold-fever-packageGeorgia Gold Rush: www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/articles/history-archaeology/gold-rushI hope this helps give you some ideas for yours and your son's trip!

Tommy & everyone, every now and then, we receive Gesswein sales brochures in the mail. A couple of months ago, I spotted the "RinGenieâ„¢" in one of their catalogs. I thought about the Mystery Machine when I saw the RinGenieâ„¢. I think the RinGenie is a manually-operated machine, though. Added an introductory vid. What do y'all think? yay? nay? RinGenieâ„¢ Photos from Gesswein website "Right out of the box, the RinGenie has everything you need to make quick and easy work of holding, layout, engraving, inlaying, stone setting, bright cutting, bead setting, and any other task a jeweler or engraver may encounter. Its rotating spindle is designed to move freely or at set intervals, providing amazing versatility and unparalleled precision. Plus its numerous mounting options make it easy to approach your work at any angle." www.gesswein.com/p-11068-ringenie-ring-engraving-and-setting-tool.aspx#sthash.EqMJ9QoD.dpufETA: Jim, wampidy, if you see this, Happy New Year! We miss your participation on the forum and hope you are doing well. Please sign back up!!

The Agate Monster and pebble are nice finds, Henry! The pebble appears to be cabbed already. Pretty cool that you met a jade diver while at Big Sur. Isn't it rough water at Big Sur? Will you be scuba diving for jade? What is a Jelly Baby?

I have my Rock tumbler set up in the shed at the bottom of the garden but had to stop my operation in October when my neighbour was concerned that the tumbler noise was some Home brew about to be launched into orbit! Welcome to RTH, curlymop, and glad you have your tumbler quietened, set up and ready to roll! Looking forward to seeing your creations, and hope you'll post some of the specimens you collected, too.

Thanks, vegasjames! Both of the links you shared are excellent online resources. Dr. Smigel's free gemology course is tops! Sure would like to see the facet-grade rubies if you still have them.

Eagle Rock plume agate from somewhere near Prineville, Oregon? I bought a couple of slabs from Blairrock a while back, and it looks similar to what you posted. I hope someone can give you a proper id for it. Nice material, herb!

Very pretty stuff, Tommy. Not sure, but can definitely identify Charley in the background. Maybe Arizona rainbow ? pet wood. Have some, but the banding is wider in it. Or it could be jasper, what is throwing me is the red markings in it that looks similar to Owyhee. Owyhee Sunset jasper that had children with an old stock Owyhee? Happy New Year, Tommy!

Congrats to Bob, and I hope his business is a success, jakesrocks! Please let us know if he creates a rock shop website. Did I mention that Bob located a new location for Biggs jasper ? Only he knows where the new deposit is located. He left a couple chunks with me, which I'll be cutting as soon as it warms up. Do you have any pics of the Biggs (chunks), Don? I think wascoite was discovered somewhere near the Biggs or Deschutes sites?
