I used muriatic (pool) acid on the wood I got from Dobell's a few years back. Three parts water to 1 part acid. Use rubber gloves or tongs. Should do it. Lime A Way works too. Not as fast as the acid but that's ok.

Spor Mountain area is where Tiffany stone is found in Utah. The big beryllium mine is right there and that's where Tiffany was coming from before they closed it off to collectors.I believe they call the soft stuff Flourospar. If it's hard and opally, I'd call it Tiffany stone. I think this is good info. Feel free to correct me. jeff

Hi, I have the LS12 and think it's great, too. You might want to move the "slab catcher" (the flat silver piece of metal by the blade closer to the blade so thin slabs don't fall down between the blade and the left part of the saw. Manual says about 1/8" from blade. Just going off your pictures so if it's already that close, just ignore this. Have fun!!

I really like my LS12. Cuts everything smooth that I've thrown at it. No regrets buying it. You should like it.

Thanks Rockpox! Have you been there lately? Just wondering how the road compares to 4 to 5 years ago when I was last there. Thanks again. jeff

I'll throw in my two cents. I think I read that gazingm42 is in Utah. I believe this is birdseye marble. Another form of this rock is also found near Yuba Reservoir. This isn't true marble. As Sabre52 mentioned it is stromatolitic in nature with algae forming around a nucleus. Some of the organic nuclear material has been replaced by crystals. This material is in lots of buildings including the Lincoln Memorial.

Great trip report. Thanks for the photos. Too busy looking for specimens a couple of years ago when we went there to take pics. Great place and people and great value. Went to the other rock shops to look at their museum pieces (way out of my price range) but spent our money at DoBell. Tanya also gave us a bunch of pieces for my daughter-in-law's third grade class. Would love to go back some day.

Captbob, what kind of putty do you use to hold the fishing weights? Thanks!
