Thank you for the grit info. In my newness my weight question was unclear. So let's try again. Am I correct, that you need some kind of weight on slabs etc. so they keep good contact on the lap?? What do you make the weights out of? Lead or ?? In one article the fellow was pouring his own lead pancakes to use. I hope I was more succinct with my questions.

I'm ready to fire up my new/used 15" Lortone vibe lab. I am confused about the weights. If I am going to use lead, how much do the weights need to weigh??? I found some nifty lead disc weights online. They look like donuts without a hole. They come in 1-5 oz. sizes. Using these would sure make things easier. What do you think?? Question 2, how crucial is it to use "graded" grit? Thanks for your help.

Howdy, I've been researching bull wheels and I came upon your old listing. I have never heard of a "Junior" version? Is it possible for you to put up a picture of it. thanks

Thanks for the note. Do you have any pics? The expando drum costs about $350. I'm in a land far far away, Oregon, so shipping would have to be looked into. I would be interested, is there a way to talk details in a less public way? I'm not familiar with all the ins and outs of the forum.

I really want a bull wheel. I really don't have the $$$. I see that you can buy a 12" expanding drum and a 12" disk. Is it possible to mount them on an appropriate sized motor? and add guards where needed. I'm not married to that kind of set up, they could be separate pieces of equipment. I just want to have that larger size drum and disk in my shop. Thanks.

I use two 5 gallon buckets. Make an x out of plywood to hold the top bucket about 8" off the bottom of the bottom bucket. You can use anything you want too, you just have to get the bucket up off the bottom and still have space for the filtered oil. Take the top bucket and drill a bunch of 1/4" holes all over the bottom, You are basically making a strainer, put it inside the bottom bucket. Take a large brown paper grocery bag and put it in the top bucket. Pour in the oil and let it filter through. I replace the bag after every load to keep the oil flowing. Otherwise the filtering slows down trying to move through the sludge at the bottom of the bag. Hope that helps. We have a dozen or more saws in our club workshop, we filter a lot of oil. When we go to use it we mix it about 1/2 and 1/2 with fresh oil.

I have recently purchased some slabs and other assorted cuts. They must have been secured in plaster of paris for cutting. There is still some plaster residue on the outside and down in the cracks. How do you get rid of it. I've tried soaking in water, hot and cold, no luck. Thanks for your help.

Hi, You might find it is more economical to buy already textured sheets. Try cooltools.us, go to metal and then textured sheets. They have a great selection of silver, brass, copper and bronze. Several different gauges. At the very least it will give you some ideas. Other than a textured hammer , you can also use a rolling mill but that is a $$ investment. There are several other places but their names elude me right now, I'll drop you a line when I remember them. Wendy
