Let us know how it works for you! Update on this. I love these machines. Takes a bit to get the feel for em but they work great. I go from 220 to 600 then polish. 3 hours for each step usually. I was able to find a rocks bullwheel for 300 bucks a few weeks back, guy hated it so I asked how much and he said 300. Drove 2 hours for it, gave me a bunch of rocks and sanding pads. You got a real good deal on the bullwheel, you will like it! I use 100, 220 and 400 belts and then the polisher. thanks for the update on the lap!

This photo of a Stinking Water Oak round shows the rays. Oak is not the only wood with rays and not all Oaks have them. I believe that this is from a limb.

woodman In your Oak identification above, of the slab pictures, which lines are the tree rings? In the last picture especially there are stripes that run almost horizontal on the photo and then another set of stripes that run almost vertical. Which set would be the rings? I feel like one set of stripes must be caused by how the wood petrified like filled cracks or something and I’m assuming these are the brighter/lighter stripes. The first photo doesn’t have this two-directional stripage, it’s a little muddier but it looks like the bright stripes go along the grain or along the rings. In your last photo, the bright lines are rays, most Oak have them. the growth rings are 90 degrees to them. A super macro cameras setting should show the rings and cell structure.

Finally got this piece polished! Could use a bit more polishing but I think that for now it looks good! It doesn't look flat. How did you polish it? BTW- another beauty! It is contour polished for sure. Wet grinder with diamond 4 " pads. finished the polishing with 4 inch felt pad with cerium oxide polish.

When railroad logging was king. My dad is in the photo. I would guess this was taken in the 1930s. You did not see any overweigh loggers in those days>
