I'll try calling him again. Been trying a few weeks and no go. I originally wanted to get the "ultimate grinder", but after weeks of no answer I started giving up on that option. I got my 24 inch rotary polisher from him also.

For the rotary lap did you go with a tom yard machine or something else? For eggs and most small pieces I go right to a bull wheel after getting the oil out. I have 36 inch rotating lap that I use on larger pieces to get the saw marks out. I have a small rociprolaaps some where buried in my shop that I was not happy with at all. You can do a lot of work with a bull wheel a lot faster, IMHO, than with a vibrating lap. YOu do need to wear a dust mask if you are sanding dry like I do. Can get dusty and you do not want to inhale that. I bull wheel with 100 grit belts, then 220 and sometimes 400 before I put them on the 24 inch rotating polisher. i It is one I got from Tom Yard. works good.

I have a Richardson's machine as well. Just a huge backlog of 5+ years of cutting everything from eggs to agate to jasper. Some pieces large and some small. So you guys have piqued my curiosity - Why would you bleach slabs / rocks ? Patty If you have one fairly dark and you want to see the growth rings and cells better. It helps to ID what type of wood it was.

I took it bck to the shop, I first sanded with 400 grit to remove polish, It took some of the bleach effect off, but not much, so I went to 100 grit. It was removing the bleach effect off and I got to the point where I liked it, so I just repolished it. I could have gotten rid of all of it but I didn't want to rebleach it. in the photo of the two photos, the top is after bleaching and the bottom one is af4teer sanding and repolishing.

Here it is before and after 36 hours of bleach. Think I like the before version better, maybe abit too long in the bleach. Now you have me all curious about how deep the bleach has altered the color, I guess a light grind and/or polish would tell. It would be back to normal with a trip to the bull wheel. Maybe I will go do that!

Been working on this slab of Stinking Water Oak. Slowly making headway! too big to fit on machines so have to do all of the work by hand.

Took a little nature hike today on the property! Spring Wild flowers are in full bloom! Woodman - what is the three leafed plant with the white flower in the first photo ?
Patty
They are Trilliums, also called giant wake robins. We have two species of Trilliums on our place here in Oregon. These are the less common of the two.

New photo of old material. Just combining two pieces. Both Stinking Water Oak. The little stand up is one of three pieces we took that were loose. In my next life maybe I will go back and dig the rest of the log out!
