To answer the question. Harbor Freight Chicago tumblers are just Junk. If you get a good One that great . if you get a bad One well. The good part it may be salvageable . Sometimes they may just need a tune up. a tune up means taking it apart and see if everything Lines up. Belts are In line with the plastic Fan Plastic fan Is level shafts are sort of square and bushing are good I had one Like yours and somewhat helped. It will not be fix all But will help. If yours has a removable top. take it off and just look at it Run . with a drum and without . If thing look sort of wobbly . You will know what to aline . If thing Look good to You and still Have problems Well buy a lortone

I have never had a Lortone motor Go bad. Most times they stop or slow Running because there dirty. This is due to hard oil, clogged with dust or grit Etc. the best way to find out good or bad is submerged the entire motor in Odorless Mineral spirits for 1-2 days. This will dissolve all the crud inside. .afterwards pull it out let air dry and plug in. Do not plug in while in the solution I have posted this several and it works

HF tumblers are what they are. I have posted this before. All HF tumblers are just slapped together and boxed. You need to Tune them Up so to speak.A big thing with them Is The belt is never aligned with The motor , so they Break. The shafts make noise because if not straight Correct they wobble. take the cover off and visually see it run. it will give you a feel what to look at

The model # you have Sears Made 2 with the same # . the early on was a large Box type apox 12"x12"x6"h with a 6 lb steel drum with Liner. American made motor with a belt. Excellent machine once cleaned it will run for years. Parts are basic Hardware store available and belts are also available . Any 6lb drum or 9lb drum will work. In Sears later Lifetime They made a Blue one with the same M # . The steel drum was an option, But came with a rubber composite with Plastic lid ,also Blue. A good machine but the rubber drum is Fragile around The rim and tends to split and break off .After that it is only Good for Dry Tumbling because of Leakage The final Sears Tumbler in That series was Model 861.14171 . this was a Plastic Gears driven and worthless. because The the plastic geer will where out rather quickly and there are no replacements that work well hope this helps

If I remember correctly a TU3x3 used 3 barrels 1 /3 Lb and 2 /1.5 lb. Lortone 1.5 barrels will work But you may not get all 3 on the carriage.. The TU 3x3 had snap on plastic Lids . They show up some time on Ebay The shaft I believe are the same diameter as The lortone 33 and possible the same length You can try "the rock shed" to view there parts. They also show length. Sal

The only Claim to fame with those tumblers is That there Cheap. I have found that if you Tune them Up there better. Most are all slapped together @ the factory and put In a box. Tune up means Line the fan pulley up with motor , shafts are position sloppy, dump the push nuts and use E clips. Just a General tightening and you will find it will Run better

Yes, The Mineral Spirits work . it is not a Fix all. remember a motor sucks in all the dust , dirt and whatever else. all of it sticks and over oiling will harden and cause it to be sluggish. This was a trick my father taught me Thanks Sal

This is something New, since My last post , I have found another Box type 6 Lb tumbler. Not Sears But Montgomery Ward. I know Both companies never made anything except to there specs. The difference Between the 2 is in the Box itself. The Ward's Is the same size as the Sears but weighs 2 Lb heavier and The entire 4 sides and Top are Louvered For motor ventilation I was trying to post a pfoto but Unable

I just re-discovered a vt-12 dual hopper vibratory tumbler in the back of my garage, and it is very old and musty. I cannot get it to work though, I think it is a problem with the motor. When I plugged it in and flipped the switch, there was a faint buzzing and it started smoking. I turned it off and have not touched it since. Any tips on what to do? Take the motor out soak it in Mineral spirits overnight or Longer to dissolve the oil and grease and Then plug in see if it works. if it hums it still has life left in it

Before you dump the Motor. Remove from the machine submerge the entire Motor In Oderless mineral spirits overnight. In the am shake out and let dry for a Few Hours. Plug in. the mineral spirits Dissolve any gum and oil . . Do not Plug in while in the solution Don't mean to hijack a bit, but it's still QT related. I recall your discussion about copper bushings that you got for your QT tumbler(s), but I was a bit confused at the end of the day as to what you used. Do you have a specific item that you can point to? I seem to recall you found something that was a direct replacement for the plastic ones. Thanks. If you go to asbbearingsonline.com. Go to flange bushing , you will see list of sized. what lortone do you have and how old. the model # QT6 or QT12 will not help. The shaft size is the same 1/2 " but Lortone has cut the Hole in the base different from time to time. If you PM me we can discuss or open another Thread

If you Go on Biedler belt, go V bets. Then Go to" Truflex light duty" click on 2L . follow the chart You will see GL160. You Might be able to Use GL150 . Translation. GL150 = a 15" belt when You cut it and measure . GL160= 16' belt. Measure your Circumference of your distance Of your belt pulley around your Motor pulley . this should equal a total of 15 or 16 Inches Sal
