I'll second that. Great, drool worthy slabs. Those are all outstanding. Nice photos, too. Thanks, Jean! Looks like you picked up some great slabs at the auction. Love the Hornitos slab!

Nice work Jeremy. Looks like you have the light tent dialed in for your photos. Good job! Thanks, Dave! Still working to get the light box fine tuned, but making progress.

Started off saying wow, and then holy cow and then they just got better and better. Great finds! #20 is my favorite, reminds me of cattails in a swamp Thanks for the kind words! I love #20 as well. If you look closely, there is a green film around the "cattails" that reminds me of frog eggs.

Love those Texas agates!!! I need to come over and bring some recent Texas Material slabs I have cut so you can photograph for me. My pictures just don't get it done. That and let's make a run up to Rusk to do some easy collecting. Henry Hard to go wrong with TX agates. I'd love to see what you've been cutting and take a few photos of them! Guessing you've got that new saw dialed in? I can't wait to get back up to Rusk! I keep thinking about all the bins that I wasn't able to look through. They're waiting for us........

"BOOM" Those are wicked cool !!!! Ever get any Iris out of Mad River and (or) Montana moss agate?? Its awesome when you do... Thanks, Mike! It's funny, I've cut some that I thought were definitely iris. Held them at every possible angle, even tried different lighting, but no such luck. Someday.....

I plan on more large tumbles. Just picked up about 3 gallons of what look to be river tumbled, possibly some Rio's, in the 1 to 3 pound range. Might try a bit larger than 4 pound, but not much more than 6 and it has to be a river tumbled. I think anything as big as 8 pounds is really going to slow the action in a 15lb barrel. Now if I can just get one of my Texas rock collecting friends and noted specimen photographer, and I won't name any names , interested in a trip down to the Rio Grande valley I could pick up some custom sized ones for tumbling. Not sure who you're talking about, but I'd love to tag along! Sweet tumble, by the way!!!!

I haven't heard of it either, Henry. Billy, if you find good material, take good pictures, write up a good report, and leave a little for us! You're the best !!! Too bad you won't have any free time, to come down and visit!

Beautiful shots, Randy! Saw these come through on Flickr, but just seeing the thread. Those West Texas agates are tricky to tumble, but yours turned out great! Can't say enough about your finish and photography!

Yeah, that's not even fair. Beautiful rocks laying all over Texas AND folks just giving away great stuff too!!! I need to hook up the wagon train and head West. Great score, Jeremy! There's plenty to go around, so grease up those wagon wheels and come on!

SCORE!!!!! I like the way they have it lined out and easy to get your shopping done...I bet you were drollin' Dude! LOL You know, I was trying to keep my expectations in check, to avoid disappointment. My only disappointment was running out of time. Every bucket was an adventure. I may need your expert help to ID some of the thundereggs that I picked up! You'd be in heaven! Long drive from Oregon, though....

Dang It!! Wish things had worked out so I could have gone. I will try and make it next time. Unfortunately I already have two major conflicts in Oct to work around. See if I can console myself with other opportunities. I thought retirement was supposed to free you up....lol? If I remember correctly, It's supposed to be the 1st Saturday in October. You'd definitely love it, so you've got 6 months to work on that schedule!

Big thanks to snuffy for giving me the heads up on a rock sale in Rusk, Texas, about 2 1/2 hours north of Houston. Apparently it's a bi-annual deal, one day only in April & October, with approximately 50 tons of rock and various used equipment. There is some great material up there! Nothing is organized or labeled, so you have to do some digging, but you never know what you're going to find in the next bin. Seemed like there was some of everything..... thundereggs, geodes, mexican coconuts, septarians, tons of different agates & jaspers, lots of Brazillians and Montanas, obsidians, crazy lace, palm wood, tiger eye, rose quartz, and even had some Walker Ranch agate and some really nice Pom Pom from Needle Peak. Quite a bit of the stuff I couldn't ID. Everything from tumbling sizes up to 30-40 pounders. Because of work, I didn't get there until noon. At 4:30, I was the last person there and they were waiting for me to finish up, so they could shut it down. Still came away with 200 lbs and only paid $1 per pound. I'll be getting there earlier next time! Here's a couple photos of the layout. Sorry, no pictures of the equipment... 1st area-
1st area continued-
2nd area
Here's a couple "rough" shots of the haul. For reference, each photo represents about 50 pounds of material.

Anyone interested in going, there will be another sale in October. They put me on the mailing list, so I'll be sure to post the details when I get it.

Very nice. We need to go pick up some of the Rio's, that is if all those out-of-state folks haven't gotten them all up!! Thanks, Henry! Maybe some of these Rios will distract jamesp long enough to remember that he used to like rocks. Sure would be nice to get him going on a new Rio Tour. We'll have to get something on the books!
