I see that it's a two month event. Is it better to go earlier or later during the show? Assuming there's more stuff towards the beginning of the show, or do vendors come and go at different times?. Are prices any lower towards the end?

$3.36/lb. for 36 lbs. Is it the same price per pound if you order 1000 lbs?

I'm not aware of any success stories with tumbling labradorite. It's right there with fluorite and apatite as soft material that's notoriously difficult, if not impossible, to tumble to the same luster as agate. I think they're best polished by hand.

I'm sorry I'm a newbie to this hobby, my son who will be turning 8 loves rocks and minerals, is box 3 petrified wood and if so is it good to use in a rock tumbler? Interested... 3 = Petrified wood. Agatized petwood = good for tumbling Opalized petwood = can be tumbled, but softer than agate. May not achieve the same shine and will weather away more quickly in a tumbler. Can't tell from the image exactly what it is. <'))))>< Fish

I've performed similar experiments using ceramic tile (not as dense of ceramic tumbling media), obsidian, and common opal. None of which performed as well as agate media or ceramics from the Rock Shed.

If you have a digital scale, that's really the only equipment you need for specific gravity testing. That, plus a bucket of water and some string, which I assume everyone has.

Another option, if it's not a jasper, is some sort of orbicular rhyolite. Easy way to tell would be testing the hardness.

I use a stainless and don't have any issues with marks. But it sounds like YMMV.

I can confirm that Rich is a great seller. He's very prompt and will cram every last ounce into a box.

Montanas are actually awesome tumbled. I coulda swore someone posted some pictures recently in the photo section.
Can someone help with sharing some pictures of Montana tumbles? If not, I'll try to snap some pics tonight.
