September, 2012. A storm had just gone through. The sun was setting as I walked onto the deck. The trees were glistening. looked up and saw this. Later learned that there was large hail and a funnel cloud about 6 miles to the East. Mammatus clouds.

Sphinx (Hummingbird) Moth. Unfortunately, no longer alive. Found on the edge of my driveway. I have enjoyed watching these moths dart around my yard from flower to flower.

I am mounting the bottle upside down. The top will be in the wood/rock slab. Just having a hard time finding a light that will fit through the neck, so might be making one.] I think I can use PVC pipe, LED Christmas lights and wire to get the effect I want. Now, I have two of these bottles and have permission to take as many as I want in the future. We are going through about 1 bottle per month at work.

I'm surprised they are bothering to crush it for road gravel! Gravel is pretty cheap. Maybe they just want to get rid of it. There was a countertop fabricator near me that I used to be able to look thru their scrap piles for awhile, but then they stopped letting people go thru it because they started crushing it up and using it in concrete countertops and the manufactured quartz countertops They are spreading it on the roads between their outdoor displays. The piles of scraps were taking up too much room and prevented people from driving down a couple of roads. Their roads are now very interesting. They have their own, very large crusher.

That's cool Beth!! Tagging RickB on this one!! fernwood nice find. I may have posted this before, but here is a projectile point identification guide for the points that are found in Wisconsin. You can also search for other states. www.projectilepoints.net/Search/ASearch_Wisconsin.htmlI looked up the Fox Valley and it is a bifurcated point (ie., if you turn it stem side up it will have two ears which look similar to Micky Mouse ears). Thanks. I now think it was mis-identified by the State Historical Society experts. It looks like a Adena Stemmed to me.

Sharing a freebie that came with another order. It is called Golden Healer Quartz. I don’t really like the name, but the stone is very pretty. The color comes from iron inclusions. It makes for a good pocket rock.

Sharing a point found by my Great Grandpa. My Mom said he was building a road of sorts sometime between 1902 and 1910. Found this and a couple of larger, Hixton Quartzite Points. This one is about 1 ½ inches long. I posted the Hixtons earlier. I think it is called a Fox Valley, or something like that. Note, it is probably an Adena Stemmed Point. Location was near the West Bay, Island Lake, Rusk County, Wisconsin. There used to be several burial mounds across the bay from where he found it. When I was a child, they were still there. I remember going to see them with a family friend.

Who knew that rocks with mica were used for counters? I live near a large counter manufacturer. Until a few years ago they would let people take the scraps. I spent many hours digging through the 25’ by 10’ by 6’ high mounds. Have over 2000 pounds of counter scraps. The largest are about 3’ in size. They receive slabs from all over the world, so I do not know what this is or where it is from. Now, they are crushing all the scraps to use for road gravel. ‘ The mica is clearly visible from the top. It sparkles in various colors, gold, silver, red-orange and blue. There is an end area where I can peel off layers of mica. This scrap is about 4.5" long. There is an area of yellow paint on the right side.

jamesp is posting Florida photos/videos on Facebook. He is currently in the middle of Idalia. Last photo, he says a power pole fell down in front of his truck. The wires took out part of his luggage rack. Photo is of part of a twisted luggage rack on the hood of his truck. He was going to the coast/beach to try to fly his drone. That man is fearless or nuts.

Apples and more apples. The tree on the South side of my yard is loaded. It has never had that many apples. Honey Crisp. They range in size from about tennis ball to softball. I had to deliver some canning tomatoes to my daughter yesterday, so brought a flat of apples along. Made sure there were some small, AJ sized ones. At first, she thought I had bought them. Said no thanks. Then asked if they were my apples. Gladly took them when she found out they were. She loves these apples. The rest of the trees have over 1000 apples on them. They will be ripe in 2-3 weeks. None of the trees are sprayed, so there is an occasional worm or imperfection.

I agree with Patty. I use a 2-3 hour Borax run between each stage and after final polish. The water is usually very dirty, even though I thought I washed the rocks well.

Nice work. Chain coral is so cool. What was the hardness difference in the matrix and coral? I keep all I find rough, as the matrix is about 4-5 and the coral about 6-7.

Out with: 2010 Subaru Forester Sport. It was a great car for a while. Now has 162,000 miles on it and having major problems. Needed about $4000 worth of repairs from a dealership over an hour away. In with: 2021 Nissan Rogue Sport. It is more car than I really needed, but AWD SUV’s are hard to find around here. It was a fleet vehicle. Low mileage. Great price. Some of the features: Fog lights, remote start, heated seats/steering wheel, driver assist, 360 camera, automatic dimming headlights, and lots of tech stuff. I am slowly learning about and how to use (or not use) all the features. Each day bring a new surprise. Yesterday I was backing out of a parking space and one of the screens said SONAR. What the heck is SONAR on a car? I still do not know how to open the back hatch. Do not know how to turn off some of the annoying features. I am averaging 32 MPG, which is great. So, looking forward to having cruise control again. Not having to use a battery charger/starter almost every time I start the car when temps are under 20 degrees. Having tires that hold air. A couple friends of mine have Rogues, so I can ask them questions about the car.

I was given this today at work. It was painted by the very talented, 15 year old daughter of friends/regular customers. When I found Sierra was no longer alive, this rock was between her paws. Her last rock gift to me. I was very honored that Vanessa eagerly accepted my request to paint Sierra on the rock. She often comes to O'so with her parents, so I have known her for about 5 years.
