Nice to see you again- don't be a stranger.
LOVE chrysoprase! Will you be listing any of this in your shop?
I will in due time, I haven't sorted and priced alot at the moment, except some for a local rock show coming up. I have about 4lbs to go through on top of what I have already picked to keep. I haven't yet sorted out etsy for discounts on multiple purchases for international shipping. But if anyone on here would like some or make up a pack from what I have on esty let me know and we'll see what I can do I'm glad last year is over, it started out bad. Docs found a lump on my lung. Being a cancer survivor it felt like ....well I was crushed. Tooks forever to see the docs because it was assumed to be covid and couldn't see them until my PCR results came back, that took 7 days. But all good turned out to be an abscess which by the time they did the biopsy they had trouble finding. Then later in the year kidney stones, one bout left me lying in the paddock in the rain in winter. Such is life. There is more rocks to find and I'm not old enough to stop looking

Some new additions last week. Small but nice Australian chrysoprase from an old collection I haven't been very active on here for a while, but I keep checking in on what is happening on the other side of the world I haven't been cabbing much, a couple of pieces of opals only, just started getting back into faceting, but I have setup an etsy store - well I set it up a couple of years ago, but only started selling in the last 6 months Grantslapidarystudio trying to provide reasonable material at a reasonable price (in most cases) mostly Australian

They look good, your probably too hard on your work The hard thing is you know where the flaws are, where the meets don't quite line up, where the polish isn't right where those little scratches are.etc then with natural material, did I pick the right orientation, best color, size, the cut for the rough, flaws that you left or missed. I know I'm harder on my stones, so I tend to ask my wife if she likes it I know that I have a few on the dops that I'll recut
All this makes me want to go through my rough and pick something to cut

addictive, time consuming, hypnotic, satisfying, challenging, frustrating, fun - can be all of these in just one stone

Finally managed to get a slab saw, hard to find one here in Australia, they get snapped up pretty quick. I did have to buy all of their gear to get it, but it was at a reasonable price, and some was an upgrade on my old gear. So after a few teething problems, I set out to reduce my rock pile. Some of my favorites I know the agate lower left isn't all that fancy, but it locally collected and there has been only 2 that have any color out of well over 100lbs

Not just here on Aussie news, but I've seen a few Aussie youtubers having their say about US politics. I think they should stick to what they are good at. What ever the outcome I hope everything go smoothly & peacefully. Doesn't matter about Vegemite. I don't really like it.

Yesterday I receive a phone from a older friend. He is moving out of the area and had a few boxes of rocks that he didn't want to move. One of his relatives used to collect, and he had had them sitting in boxes for years, some were still wrapped in newspaper from 1979. Couple of my favorites plenty of flaws and inclusions to work around in the chrysoprase but should get a few nice ones from them. Also got plenty of petrified wood, heaps of carnelion, rainforest jasper and a large chunk of aragonite

We all have to start somewhere. Me, I taught myself, my only teachers have been on here, the net and books. The cab challenges have be invaluable. Then Now Now faceting is a whole different ball game

Not my work. My wife has taken up wire wrapping and weaving over the last month or so. Do I need a better excuse to cut more cabs? But I think I have to buy her some sterling wire, and take better photos.

My vote is that the Noreena is out of place. It should be back home, here in Australia. We've got plenty of rabbits so you can keep that one.

I've been watching that thread on the Aussie Lapidary Forum, to see the results. Looks great, though tricky.

Mostly you learn to live with them, frustrating as it can be. I hate when they get stuck behind my glasses and can't find their way out, or worst - swallowing them, instant gag. Hoping to make the trip to Lightning Ridge this year, after all it's only 600 miles one way. Do you mine above ground or below? Or is it go where you need to go? Stay safe and good luck. Just planning on a week there going over some of the old tailings and find some that has been missed. A friends brother has an underground mine there, so hopefully I can organise to go down one. Then a week on the New England sapphire fields, and a couple of other spots on the way for some other bits.

Just to the North East of Benalla, upper left of the map. So the nearest fire is about 60km (37 miles) from home. Not far but generally the prevailing weather comes from the north west. so pushing it away from here.

rivarat Thank you for sharing your experiences. May you and yours remain safe. Would you say the below is a fairly accurate map of the fires? Never thought about overlaying Australia over the US, but the areas burnt across the country is about 8 million hectares (19.8 million acres)
