Acryylic is soft and will not hold up. I would cover the rods with rubber hosing, such as fuel line. Lube the hose with some dish soap to help it slide on the rod. Something I’ve used is heat shrink tubing, easy no struggle installation with heat gun or possibly a hair dryer to shrink (propane torch if you’re careful not to burn it). Available locally or on-line in various diameters and lengths, colors, lightweight or heavy weight and adhesive lined or not (hard to remove old adhesive). Heat Shrink worked for me too . . .
2 months ago I put 5 layers of Heatshrink on the drive roller for my Loretone QT66. The first layer was the hardest because the metal roller is colder than it takes to shrink the tubing properly. 5 layers was the same thickness as the original rubber hose that failed. But heat shrink tube does require special tools. Only been going for a coupla months but it's working really good so far.

New user - hi everyone. Ready to throw my HF dual barrel tumbler off the bay bridge! The belt slips off the pulley after only 3 seconds or so. I have been trying to solve this issue for months. Rocks were in 3rd stage and many more rocks just collecting dust. I’ve adjusted the motor location but still the belt slides off. My question - is the belt worn out so that it angles off the pulley? Or is the pulley worn out causing the belt to slide ‘downhill’ and off the pulley-rod? I thank you in advance for any tips you have for dealing with this insufferable frustrating situation 🌉😱 Make sure that the belt is Running Straight The notch on the motor should be a straight line to the notch on the driver Pulley The drive pulley position should be adjustable with a Hex wrench and make sure the belt is snug but not tight plus, an old belt could have a Flat side or something worn onto it, so it could be the belt

I've been tumbling for 6 years now and I make sure to look at the tumbler everyday just to make sure things are going OK. Tumblers work great until they don't , then it's a big mess . . .

I have a bowl of Best of-the Best Tumbles. A lot of them are translucent. Have mentioned that I want to make a Backlit display to mount those cool rocks on. This may be the year . . .
I'm getting my energy back finally Still planning on working plenty more on the Subwoofer Vibe experiment ?

With a Hex walled barrel ... The rocks would be dumped off the Top in Waves instead of continuously with Round walls.

Before the Temperature dropped to 2 degrees. I did a Cleanout Outside in the backyard. Then I unhooked all the hoses and insulated the faucets. Today will be the first day it gets above freezing temps here. The QT66 developed a Bad Belt and will only drive a single barrel, so waiting on belts to be stocked before I'm running 100% again.

Custom Built is always the way to go, if you can aim for a Dayton Motor they last for ever and are built to handle a lot harder load than they will tumbling rocks. The worst part about custom built is the cost of the barrels to fill it up lol. I would love to see a tutorial on a custom built tumbler set-up! I think, considering the DIY mentality of most people on this forum, it would be very interesting! There are a buncha DIY tumblers on this page . . .

Limestone is about all we have here in North Alabama. Just pure gray though , No character. The next county west of here is called Limestone County.

I only add water up to about 1/4 of the rock level. Always end up with thick slurry but not too thick. Using #30 grit so it will last the whole week.

Very interesting My 33A runs at 60 RPM and I thought it has the same motor as a 33B ? Wow 60 is fast! I had a Nat Geo that was around that. This 33b I have is old though, I bought it used and have been running it non stop for a couple years. Is yours a newer unit with the octagon shaped barrel inside? Yes it has the octagon shape inside the barrel. Bought it new in 2016. Comparing a 3 and 6 pound barrel, Somebody on here was telling me that the Outside Surface of the barrels are moving at the same speed but the different barrel sizes cause the difference in speed.

Thank you for the quick responses! Y’all are awesome! I have ordered the Rock Shed grit and will give it another go. Hopefully that will help! This was very informative already, and I am looking forward to learning more here!
When you get your Good Polish from the Rock Shed You should not totally rerun your batch of rocks Just simply doing a Polish Run should do the trick using the Rock Shed Polish
The best Polish that Nat Geo has is considered Prepolish around here

If you have a Hazy Shine then a burnish will not help you At the most, a burnish will only make a noticeable difference it will not bring a shine out of the haze
You will need a better polish to get the shine

Those motors have oiler holes on each end of the shaft on the outside edge of the body. Little Half-moon cutouts with small tubes going straight to the bearings. I would definitely put a few drops of oil in those 2 holes before getting a new motor.
and anyone that owns one of these tumblers (QT6, QT66, QT12) put a drop of thin oil in there every year.
