I am new to the rock carving hobby, but I love it. I just got a Foredom flex grinder yesterday and it is WONDERFUL! Big step up from Drexel!
My question involves what comes next. I ordered several kinds of diamond wheels with 1/8” shaft. That gets me a rough shape, but I don’t know what to use after that. I have tried some alum oxide wheels for the Dremel, with no success. Maybe I just wasn’t patient enough. What do I get to bring finish to a high polish? More accurately, how do I get from 60-90 grit diamond wheel to where I can even start to polish?
Thanks in advance for your help!
David

We are David N Debra Kirkpatrick of east central Indiana. We are 70 & 69 and retired for three years. We RV to the desert southwest in winter after many winters of sliding and shoveling. Just last year visited the Safford area looking for fire agates. The only one I have comes from the Tucson Gem show in Feb, but we plan to keep looking for our “surprise”! We did find some nice chalcedony and I have been practicing carving with a Dremel tool. Finding that very rewarding. I have also tried knapping of things like obsidian and chert. Not been too successful at that, so far. Takes a lot of practice to hit just right! We thank God every day for our health and the modest resources we have that allow us to follow this dream. Wishing you all happy trails and safe travel from wherever you are to wherever you want to be!
