I am interested in using a bowl vibratory tumbler for ALL 4 stages of tumbling. Mainly because you can view it through the clear top, and I think the kids will stay interested if they can see the action. Has anyone used a bowl vibratory tumbler starting with raw tumble for the coarse and medium stages? If so, what media did you start with?

Here at CigarboxRock we can possibly help you with this. We would need your old parts to either recondition or duplicate. If you are not happy with our estimate upon receiving the core all you would be out is the return shipping. We never had this to be the case. The problem with many old parts that maybe available is that the lapidary industry was always changing designs every few years. By receiving your core we can guarantee an exact fit. If you go to our website www.cigarboxrock.com under the tab products proceed to cool parts where you can view our work. Hope this helps and have a great day!

Sorry - Flatsy is a slang term our German Machinist uses.

COXXY ~ Great crafted blade ! ! Perhaps an easier retro is to consider changing your wheels to 6 inch for more clearance. Our Lapidary Shop foreman renews quite a few of the vintage Frantom Combination units if you want to get some other ideas with your current project. Call CigarBoxRox.com at 541 280 - 5574. We have deep snow event today so next day he most likely will work is thursday february 28. I will try to remember to send you a picture tomorrow of a Frantom Combo similar to yours we just renewed to factory specs. Warm Regards, Tim Bend, Oregon

Take gear and feed screw to a local machine shop. Should be fairly inexpensive lathe job. Ask machines to provide small flatsy surface on end for maximum secure entry to gear. CBR

Hello Caveman79 It has been our experience that when a rock slips out of the vice the impact on the arbor is hard enough that it knocks the arbor out of alignment as well it can damage your flanges.

Here at CigarBoxRock machine shop we use JB weld. A lot of folks do not think they want to deal with trying to remove rock after cutting.but not an issue. Since most all of our test cutting is wet testing expensive 20 to 36 inch saws with 6 to 8 pound chunks we can not risk slightest risk of failure and it never has. Last slice just cut through JB weld joint.

Looks exactly like “Lago De Fuego”, Lake of Fire. I purchased mine from Rivera Brothers from Mexico . They set up and sold perhaps 200 pounds at the Oregon Madras show perhaps 20 years ago. Very nice.

Fosselman,NRG,Sabre,Tommy, and Hooked on Rocks - Good stuff, lots of helpful information, great group! Since there was other yellow Stoney Creek material pieces in the bottom of the old saw I thought the origins may have been in close proximity to each other in California but even in the old days rock hounds traveled and traded. Thanks a bunch!

Sweet! Would you say your piece is similar to California Stoney Creek Jasper and variety’s?

CD - I think you are on right track but Puddingstone seems to be made up of whole pieces and this Jasper broken and is surrounded in quartz like matrix. We inherited a huge chunk that was in tank of a 30 - 40 year old 36 inch slab saw. Location was Near California/Oregon line so was assuming one of those states? I appreciate the input!

I have a block of that in my shop I got from Ron's Rockshop at Camarillo. He identified it as puddingstone from Australia. Don't know anything else about it as I've been unable to Google any further info that would confirm this origin...Mel c

Our rock club is looking for new jaws for the 34 inch Star Diamond Industries Inc saw. We have had the jaws re- machined once several years ago. Now would like to find company who bought out Star diamond Ind. or find it used ok too. Any ideas? We are told this wonderful old saw is obsolete. Just our opinion but very few USA vintage saws are obsolete in the terms of being serviceable. With that said you most likely may not find parts for them in a shop inventory. Star Diamond saws were built with excellent USA steel and craftsmanship.Your jaws can certainly be restored or used as a core for brand new milled jaws. We do this every week for a long list of vintage saws. Do not give up hope we can help you with this. Tim CigarBoxRock Lapidary

Here at Cigar Box Rock the most common thing we found for this problem is a dull blade. To correct it one can use a metal file against the crown of the blade to bring it back to square. Or simply replace it. Matthew

Nova Wheels are great for faster production but the expense is far greater, what I tend to use is expando silicon carbide all the way up to 1000 grit then a 8000 to 14000 Nova wheels. Keep on Rocking!! CigarBoxRock
