Aww...you guys are great and thanks for the birthday wishes! I actually spent a lot of it cleaning up a nice Blue Forest petrified log I found this summer in Wyoming. And making an opal doublet. A perfect birthday!

Looks like you guys had a great time. I love that there are about as many pictures of food and beer as there are of rocks!

The Nevada Wonderstone cabs are awesome! The others are not too shabby either!

Dang Jason. My jaw about hit the floor when I was looking at these! You are rocking it! I love the plasma, and you have a perfect shape for the material. Well done.

I ordered some slabs from him once years ago when I was first starting down this path. I was mostly pleased with what I received and there were a couple freebies included which is always nice. But, several of the slabs also had saw marks and several others were really, really wedge shaped. I enjoy going to Blairrock to read the descriptions and stories. You can tell he has a passion for stones. But I spend my money elsewhere.

I'm assuming you will be going to the Blue Forest to collect some petrified wood, but if not, be sure to go out there. Super close to Big Piney. A couple years ago, I stayed in Cody for a bit. I accessed the Shoshone River trail and poked around on the gravel along the banks and found some nice banded agates. Watch for bears! Supposed to be some goodies out on Heart Mountain, a bit east of Cody but I haven't made it there yet. And some type of ice cave in the vicinity IIRC. I get some nice slabs from Stone Age Industries in Powell...maybe worth a look at their shop? Jim Gray has a good shop in Marbleton as well. Have fun!

I dislike textured backplates for just this reason. I hope brotherbill will divulge some of his secrets!

Tops, probably six hours. An old shoulder injury dictates the terms 😂

What is the metal that is visible, I would guess pyrite but there is some Colorado turquoise with gold. c It’s actually all matrix, al least as far as I can tell. The darker inclusions might be metallic in nature, but they don’t scream pyrite to me. I’m not sure if Cripple Creek is known to have pyrite in it like some of the others, I’ll have to see if I can find that out.

I love your asymmetrical take on this! I haven't worked a lot of turquoise myself. I do have some, but it kinda intimidates me. Asymmetry is so hard for me to do, but this cab screamed asymmetry, so that’s where I went. This is only the second piece I’ve ever cut, the first was a gorgeous Morenci that I was also intimidated to cut!

I see a face in your turquoise. He looks very pleased with his pretty home. He looks dreamy! Happy with his new home! 😊😊😊

I love everything Turquoise. This setting is a perfect compliment to the cab. Thanks much, Beth. I’m starting to gain a new appreciation of it!
