When I fill tumbler cans (my term), often I have leftover pieces of rough, and they end up getting set aside in a certain box. I don’t allow that box to get too full, I always use what is in it when I can make up a full can and start a new batch. It’s a good time to experiment and try new things out, in this case I added a 2nd prepolish step of #1000 AO. So this batch is the first-ever time I’ve done both #500 and #1000 prepolish, a week in each, followed by 8 days in TXP. The photo itself is dreadful, just an existing light (interior LED on the ceiling) and a cellphone camera. Maybe I’ll update the photo in daylight. Anyway, it’s my latest batch out, from earlier today. Oh and they were washed in a borax/ivory soap mix for a few hours, with hot water. There are 2 kinds of petrified wood, some misc. agates that came out of a bin marked “mixed agates” so I don’t know what/where they are exactly, there’s a couple of pieces of emerald on matrix (not high quality rough, lots of cracks in it); but all of it does have a great, glass-like finish, typical of this polish, along with good colors, etc. The white linear streaks in the wood is it’s coloration and not deposits of leftover grit. Some of the wood does have excessive cracks, I think Imdid some of it, and some is just because the rough quality is lacking a bit maybe. The multicolored agate rough is good quality, and these rocks came out excellent, with few issues.

Good night you got a great shine on those!! Three of those look like "Dragon's Blood Jasper"...they might not be...but they sure look like it to me.

geoff59, what's up? Nice looking rocks. I have a box dedicated to "rocks for tumbling", sort of like your odds and ends. I use them to fill the barrels when I need to. Petrified wood can be difficult depending on the species, I guess. However, it can turn out to be super nice after a few weeks in the coarse stage. I really like tumbling pet wood. I wonder how many people do a 1000 pre-polish stage? I used to use TXP until I used it all up, then I switched to AO polish, it seems to have made a noticeable difference in the shine.

I already sold a couple of these earlier today at a local crafts fair. They sold themselves is probably more on-point. Some of the rest, photographed here in better lighting than I used last night.
