Hello, I'm new to this forum, though I've enjoyed reading other folk's threads for a while. I have a beloved old Rock's 20" saw, and it has developed a problem when cutting. The screw thread is not advancing the rock in the auto feed anymore. I loomed at everything and all seems to be ok except perhaps the "brake pads" or "pawls" arent grabbing thus not turning the arm that advances the feed. I think anyway! I was wondering, if they have lost their ability to grab, could I coat their edge with something to help them grab better?

Welcome from Northern Arizona! I would post about your saw on the Lapidary Equipment board. More folks will see it and be able to help you out.

Show us a photo or two of the feed mechanism. Is there a way to increase the pressure that the jaws exert on the feed screw (clamp, rubber band, ??) If the feed screw is turning but the vice sled is not advancing, you need to devise a way to get a better contact between the jaws and the threaded rod. Removing material from the face of the jaws so that they can come closer together around the feed rod, or rethreading the jaws are possible alternatives. Photos and careful observation are your friends.

Welcome from AZ Pics please, I have a 6" Texas Rocks trim saw with the sliding platform. Love to see how they did a feed clutch. I found a "universal" feed clutch replacement thingie I made for a saw years ago just yesterday, maybe a version of it will get you slabbing again.
If learning cloudinary is not something you want to do immediately you can always drop me a PM and email one, I'll be happy to post for you.
