jasoninsd Oh how I remember those snow blizzard days across the Great Plains, blowing so hard you couldn’t see across the road! That -40° winter storm that froze our back door shut not to mention the steering column to my Buick, living along emergency routes where the snow plows came by regularly and buried your cars in a wall of snow, or how the plows left 4 foot high barriers of snow across the intersections that somebody had to be the first to try and barrel through, usually only to get high centered, and the never ending icy roads that melted and refrozen every single night bringing back the enjoyment of slippery winter driving. Well my friend, I hope you have drained your tile saw and water hoses, are stocked up and happy inside a warm abode and working away on your lapidary treasures. 😎 As for winter my friend, go ahead and keep it. But on the positive side, it looks like you got a “heat wave” coming in for Saturday!

Wow!!! It was in the 40-s today. I needed a warm jacket and a quilted vest, but I survived the cold spell; hope you do, too.

markb - Yeah, I guess I had this coming after making the smart aleck comment about winter in that other thread! LOL Saturday will be the respite before the coprolite hits the fan next week...at least temperature-wise. Saws and hoses are drained. I've been hauling water in buckets for the last month to do any cutting...

Single digits suck! Of course, -single digits suck more. We've been getting down into the teens for the last week or so at night. WAY too cold.

We had a slight respite yesterday afternoon where it stopped snowing and could see blue sky. I think that lasted about 45 minutes. Then this crap started again. I'm SO over this wind. Holy crap!

Wind makes everything doubly miserable. I remember commuting to work back in Chicago. Had to take a bus to the "El" (train that went in the subway) and then walk from the station to work. There was one year in the 80's where we had between -40 and -50 wind chills for a week. I thought I was going to die it was so cold. The funny part was everyone was so bundled up all you could see was the slit of their eyes through the scarves wrapped around their heads (including me). Nobody was sporting the high fashion look that winter.

I'm carrying an extra 10 pounds that I've never really had before...maybe subconsciously I knew I'd need the extra insulation this year! LOL

Patty.... sorry for your cold, but not wishing for it.

It's going to take a bit more than 3 or 4 days of shoveling! LOL

Its hardly balmy here in New Mexico, but .. . the shrubs are starting to show new growth, and more importantly the roadrunners are starting to court (they normally start courting around Valentines Day (14 Feb or so). Guess global warming is detectable in a roadrunners heart and libido.

The wind finally died down last night. What an unbelievable difference. It's 22 degrees out right now...and feels like 45 degrees! Thankfully we never lost power during the horrible winds...which I'm very surprised at! It's going to be interesting as it's supposed to be around 30 degrees today with some sun. That means there might be some melting of the drifts. Then the temperature DROPS...which means the drifts could become rock hard. I think later today I'll shovel some of the massive drift just outside my garage door where I have my saws...that way they aren't immovable after the cold snap gets through...

It was six degrees here yesterday and today, plus we got some significant snow last week. I'm grateful for the precipitation because of the drought we've had for several years now. When it gets cold like this I remind myself it's all relative because I remember numerous 50 below zero days when I was in northwest Wyoming. And that's nothing compared to what they get in eastern Siberia, or Tok, Alaska.
I have to admit that the older I get, the more I like room temperature.
