This is the 3rd shop I have taken it to. No one has been able to solve the mystery. This all started a couple years ago. It starts fine above 15-20 degrees. My battery is about 1.5 years old. Runs fine once started. I am very frustrated. I wonder if a trickle charger would help.
Basically it keeps a small amount of current to the battery, all the time.
They are very small these days you can keep them permanently under the hood.
Glad you're holding up Beth, as Jason said make the right decision on work.

I had to work on the ski hill yesterday. The wind chill was -41F. Luckily all of the scheduled lessons canceled. I got a few good runs in but you had to go inside to get warm after every couple runs.

I tried that. Bought a new charger that has trickle, regular and start. The trickle did nothing, as the battery was fully charged. The start feature didn't help either. It just isn't as powerful as my old one is.

OK. My fiancé had one like that for his Harley. I didn;t know they made them for cars, too.
I use the trickle setting on my charger for the lawn mower battery for a few days before using it in the Spring.

jasoninsd Depending on how exposed your plumbing is below your house, you may want to reconsider wrapping your pipes to avoid future freeze ups. Do you have or did you close up any foundation vents prior to winter? As for spiders, at -40° none are going to be moving quickly if at all. Or, if you’d prefer below is a special suit that they won’t bother you in! 😎

Haven seen much posting- hope you didn't freeze to death & are keeping your rocks warm.
It's a balmy 35 degrees here in NW Florida, expecting 18 tonight + wind chill factor.
Patty Thanks for thinking of us and others. I did AM chores in -30 wind chill this AM. The winds have picked up since then. I keep hearing small pieces of evergreen trees hit my patio doors. It is a balmy -9 now. I am considering not going in to work today. My car is having problems. I have to start it with an old fashioned battery starter. That thing weighs a ton. If I go to work, will have it haul it and some extension cords along. No one can figure out what is wrong with my car. It turns over when cold, but does not seem to be getting gas. The heavy duty battery is newer and tested to -30 CCA last month. My animals are taking all this in stride. Sierra dog really wanted to play this AM, but it was just too cold. Take care everyone. fernwoodDid they check for moisture in the fuel line? If there is and it’s freezing up it will act like a blockage.

This is the first time I've had an issue with the sewer line freezing. Like I said, it's really weird because the toilet and the sink outlets didn't freeze up...and they're all within 5 feet of each other. I'm not sure how you got a picture of me in my pajamas on here!!! LOL

What kind of car? Brand, model, year 2010 Subaru Forester. I know the turn signal sensor is shot. It is causing some other problems. I wonder if that is the major problem. It is causing warning beeps whenever drivers door is open and headlight issues. The auto does not work on head lights, so I turn them on and off manually. The turn signals work fine. No one wants to deal with that. I would need to take it to a dealership about 1.5 hours away. The cost is over $2000.00 to have it replaced. The sensor is buried in the steering column.

I was getting ready to go to bed around 1am, so went to the back bathroom and discovered the ice block in the pipe had finally let loose!! So, the combination of running the space heater into the access panel and/or the ice melt I put down the drain finally allowed the constipated pipe to let loose! Woot Woot! Maybe next time I'll just dump (pun intended) some Metamucil down the drain! LOL

Rocks are fer sure frozen and living in the garage. We had a couple days down in the -40's and it was -26 with wind-chill yesterday and this morning about the same. We didn't get nearly the winds up here like they did down south of us, which is a good thing as we probably would of had more trees down than we already do. The temps are pretty normal for a winter here and last year we had several days in a row -40's. Unlike some other states, we are prepared for this. Keep warm everyone and we wish you a Very Merry Christmas
