Happy Winter Solstice - December 21st 2022
The winter solstice, also called the hibernal solstice, occurs when either of Earth's poles reaches its maximum tilt away from the Sun. This happens twice yearly, once in each hemisphere (Northern and Southern). For that hemisphere, the winter solstice is the day with the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year, when the Sun is at its lowest daily maximum elevation in the sky. Either pole experiences continuous darkness or twilight around its winter solstice.
The winter solstice is especially notable from a planetary level, as it signals the official beginning of winter, the coldest season in the Northern Hemisphere. During the winter solstice, the Sun appears to stand still at the southernmost point of the equator, also known as the Tropic of Capricorn. Finally, it will begin to start its journey north again. The winter solstice marks the shortest day of the year with the longest night of the year and the official beginning to the winter season. The winter solstice always occurs on Dec. 21 or 22. Gradually going forward, the days will start to slowly grow longer as the sun pulls us towards spring.
We're headed out to hunt our Christmas tree today, to bring in a piece of green into the house, as a reminder that spring is coming.

Sounds like a fun adventure, enjoy! We were just talking about the solstice. The last two mornings I have been absolutely unable to get up on time. Interesting to have that happen the day before and on the solstice. So, I blame nature for being late to work. 🤓

Happy Winter Solstice We are in for another doozy that started today. Those longer, warmer days cannot come fast enough Ali - Days will start getting longer now, although we won't notice it much for a while. The bad news is the mornings will still be darker for a couple more weeks. It's been below normal in temperature around here, too. I am not impressed. Keep yourself and Nate safe, toasty and warm during this next one. It looks like it's gonna be a humdinger (insert your favorite curse word(s) there).

I'm not impressed with this either and have said many curse words We were to travel back to Wisconsin this weekend and may still do so if we feel it's safe, but it's not looking good.

I've been watching the hysterics on the Weather Channel to see what they're saying. It's not looking good at all. They were talking about 20 ft. waves on the East side of Lake Michigan. There are going to be blizzard conditions (40-50 mph wind), so play it safe whatever you do!

Apparently I live in a cave and didn't realize how bad they are predicting it'll be in 24 hours. If we really get 17-24 inches with 50mph I'll be impressed. I don't see both happening the same time....but what do I know 🙃

hummingbirdstones I had a delivery to one of your fine facilities Monday so I got my 30 minutes of snow for this year LOL. Good to hear the days are beginning to get longer, even at almost 70 degrees those 5pm sunsets are too early for me.
