I was tougher than smart. Wood stove accepts 16" wood not 16.5 " and putting the word diagonally / in the stove over hopped up coalsw led to "fire point" and befor I knew it the sap from the for tree liquified and caught fire. I made the decision to run for the door of my home 850sq ft a frame like bungalow. Halfway thier I had to fight the urge to drop the burning wood as I could feel the fire burning me. But had I done that ide be homeless. So the brain told me as much in the moment and i held on and chucked it out the door with a subsequent er trip that night smh. jasoninsd

Oh...and I can't wrap (pun intended) my head around how you were able to accomplish these wraps with your thumb like that!!

Holy crap, Johnny! I saw those pictures and my stomach turned. I hope it heals quickly and isn't as painful as it looks. I wouldn't be wrapping anything with my thumb in that condition. Please consider that wire is dirty and if you poke that wound by accident or whatever, it could get infected. Be careful!

Good grief! Odd sensation when your brain simultaneously tells you to do two things at once; I'm impressed that the logical part won out! I also feel for you--both because of the photos and a (somewhat) shared experience. Arm yourself with lots of "stuff" to ease pain since when it starts to heal, it's going to be a bear, to say nothing of the silent thanks you will give your hand for still existing. Wishing you a Happy New Year complete with a speedy recovery.

7 days in so far it's wrapped up with medi honey and non stick pads than gauze than coband wrap hummingbirdstones Yah know I just wanted to do something I enjoy and I can't lay around all day so the jewelers vice came out to play. jasoninsd Son Of Beach appreciate yah man imma get through. I have had a fairly decent time so far. These pnw er docs are skimpy on any "stuff" to help out and I'm insurance-less due to the job switch. Oh well._@susand24224 I'm a firm believer in the Holy Spirit, he dwells in me and can give me words of knowledge and strength more than my own. It was he who spoke over my instinct to drop it and I attribute my resolve to him as well. It was nuts. I had to pass by the Xmas tree and my wife and i's pop up table to eat on 3ft square of which my foot caught and I stumbled at the time I told my self if you drop this your house will burn. But I found footing made it the last 10ft to the door and opened it and chucked the burning wood that my wife had to go hose out. She also scraped skin off the door knob! Ew! But alas I think back and a wet towel smother would have worked out better for me. Lol the er lady doctor said men with addrenalin pumping will decide u rationally and I was lucky to have made my decision work lol! Compliment I think not.

aGates I am glad the burn was not worse. Also that your house was not damaged. When I was using my fireplace, I always had a small fire extinguisher nearby. Your wraps are very nice. I can't imagine doing the double one with a thumb like that. Hope you heal quickly.

I can truly relate to severe hand burns, had reconstructive surgery from one burn and crush incident at work. The thing I learned with pain is forcing myself to have frequent, small protien and fat snacks to keep the blood sugar and natural pain blockers working without the insulin/adrenaline issues worked best for me for drug free pain management. Secondary to prayer of course. There are lots of natural anti inflammatory stuff out there, turmeric comes to mind, but vegasjames really knows that stuff. BTW the wraps are good, probably help to focus thoughts elsewhere too.

Now we need to send prayers after you. That certainly looks painful. Glad you kept your wits about you and did not burn your home down. I realize you were feeding a wood stove, but around here, it always blows me away how many people have Christmas tree fires, burns their homes up, kills their pets. No indoor real Christmas trees for me, nope!

Secondary to prayer of course. There are lots of natural anti inflammatory stuff out there, turmeric comes to mind, but vegasjames really knows that stuff. BTW the wraps are good, probably help to focus thoughts elsewhere too. The best anti-inflamamtories are licorice root and Yucca schidegra root powders. These are natural steroidal anti-inflammatories, and both support the adrenals that produce the body's own anti-inflammatory corticosteroids.
Turmeric is OK, but has its limitations. It is poorly absorbed and very high in oxalic acid.
For burns and crush injuries one of the best things can be done is ozone therapy. Ozone stimulates healing and oxygenation as well as increases activity of immune cells. This is what I used on my fingers I severe crushed and tore up when a 380 pound boulder suddenly shifted and caught my fingers between it and another rock. When the fingers started smelling like gangrene I bagged the hand and blew in the ozone. After the third treatment I had full use of my hand again. The skin that peeled up to the finger tip all grew back complete with fingerprints and I was able to cut away the old dead skin. I have used ozone for so many things including staph infections. It is really a fantastic therapy for so many diseases and conditions. Even the cheap water purification units can be used for external use such as burns and crush injuries. Internal use for things such as cancer, herpes, hepatitis, autoimmune conditions, etc. does require a bit more advanced unit and pure oxygen as a starter gas. There are a lot of medical studies on ozone for a variety of conditions on PubMed proving efficacy.

Wow, that sucks Johnny! Hope you heal quickly. The wraps look great. As others have already said, I don't know how you did wraps with your thumb in that condition. On the double wrap are you sure your bottom stone is secure? You wouldn't want to lose that!

That's funny question rockbrain I am NOT sure the rock won't move but I did my best to secure it and than CA glue on the back for I hope Insurance. Unwrapped these for gifts for my buddy and he wanted both color plays to show so I came up with that t design with the prongs. Time will tell. I'm into some seriously awesome Mexican fire opal. More to come.
