I was wondering if anyone has made their own polishing pads. I just finished replacing the leather on the polishing head of my old machine, and I bought a new head with rubber, so I can easily change pads. THe Texas Rock cabber I have only has 3 wheels for paper, so I'm limited on my initial grit. I figured I'd use the polishing pad, with multiple pads to go up from 1000, until I can do the final polish on my leather.
I was wondering if I can create canvas disk on my own to use on the spare head, or if there is anything special about the pre-made. If I can do it myself, what type of canvas is best? I plan on cutting a second piece of leather to use as well, so I can have a smooth or suede side to charge and use.
Thanks ^_^

Have you tried denim for polishing? Old jeans work really well for polishing.

Have you tried denim for polishing? Old jeans work really well for polishing. I finally took the time to try this. I cut up a pair of jeans that didn't fit (I'll get like 16-18 pads out of them =P) and used then for 4K and 8K polish today. Works a lot easier than the leather I've got. I think I'll keep the leather for the final polish and use the jeans for lower. I did disocver I have to be careful how much I wet them. If I do too much, the feathering compound can't hold them to the polishing head =P. Lots of small lessons, but I'm loving it!

I was just going to ask what adhesive you used and then had to look up feathering compound cause I didn’t know what it meant. So that’s working pretty well for you, as far as you can use it and then when your disk is worn out it’s easy to remove and apply a new disk? Or have you only tried it once so far with your denim disks? I’ve been wondering what glue would be best for homemade disks.

The feathering disk compound seems to work great. I've let it dry on the rubber pad on my polishing head, and the demin disk sticks back just fine. Its easy to apply, can just be a bit messy. The only thing I've had issues on it with was my own fault. I have one head I put leather on, and I put the suede side down....that tears and sticks, so I can't pull it off clean and use another pad. If i use the smooth side, I've had no problem. With the denim, I just need to not use quiet as much water as I did.
