Well, I'm not the most fix it guy there is, so could anybody who is offer up a possible cure to the sound from my new Rebel-17 tumbler when the barrel turns?
Nothing appears to be "scraping" as it rotates around, but I can't see anything that would cause the sound. The barrel is empty. I slightly tightened the allen screws in the ends of the drive and idler shafts, and while that dampened the noise somewhat, it still occurs. The video below is of the sound prior to me tightening the allen screws.
Thanks!

I don't know what the noise is, but it looks like you have a slight wobble unless I'm seeing it wrong...

If you can easily remove the shafts you should do so and roll them on a flat surface observing the ends to see how far off flat they might be. My first guess is a shaft is bent enough to be causing noise in the pillow blocks. But first, if you have a long screwdriver or piece of steel rod you can make a "redneck stethoscope" by holding one end to the bone in front of your ear and the other to your pillow block frame to determine where the sound is the loudest. You might loosen and realign that pillow block and check the noise again before going deeper. Also make sure the distance between the rods is identical at both ends.

Watching your video again, your sound is timed to the barrel more than the shafts which may indicate they are further apart on one end than the other. If you have calipers and you can take an inside or outside measurement on the metal shafts at the ends and adjust them th as close as possible, and also check how square they are to the pillow blocks at one end, a little adjustment may fix it. Being parallel is more important than being square.

markb, not sure if you've fixed this by now or just started to ignore the noise... That sound is the edge of the barrel rubbing on the plastic guides that are on the drive shaft. I have two Rebels and one of them had a bent driveshaft straight outta the box. I sent a video to Rebel and they sent me a new shaft all set up with the guides, rubber and everything. Mine seemed to have the same symptoms you've showed in the video.

Thanks for sharing this. I was going to get a Rebel but I think I will stick with my Thumlers. seems to be worth the few extra dollars. Not as fancy with the bearing and what not, but never had a bend shaft on a new unit (I have 6 Thumlers)
