Hello everyone my name is Jared and I run the website and YouTube channel called Currently Rockhounding. I also run a podcast with my wife called the Previously Rockhounding Podcast where we read and talk about vintage issues of Rock & Gem magazine. I enjoy long rockhounding trips which means we travel a lot in the summer and in the cold snowy winters here in NE Washington I work in my lapidary shop and look at tiny minerals under my microscope. Thundereggs and the zeolite group of minerals are really high up on my list of interests but I enjoy almost all rocks and minerals. (Luckystrike thunderegg from Oregon) (Analcime from the moses roadcut in Washington) (Working at the microscope) (My tiny little workshop)

Welcome from Northern California, I dig your specimen viewing setup! What magnification do you prefer to use? The microscope goes between 3.5x and 180x with my current setup but I spend most of my time between 20-60x. Really beyond that you're just investigating things that are really hard to see or not visible to that naked eye and the depth of field is so narrow you need to produce an image stack to really see what it even is. The higher magnification require a lot more light and I don't currently have anything like a fiber-optic light.

Welcome to the forum from South Dakota! It's actually SUPER nice to have you on the forum. Just the other day I watched your video on getting more life out of a saw blade. The content in your videos is superb...but more importantly for me, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to you during the video. It seems very clear to me you have a passion for what you do...and a great way of presenting it to others! (I don't subscribe to very many YouTube channels...but instantly subscribed to yours after watching only that first video the other day.) This is a fantastic rock-loving community here on the forum...I hope you're able to feel at home here!

I really enjoy putting things to the test that are commonly talked about and showing my results.
With all of the blade testing I have been doing over the past year I really try to let the microscope do the talking and leave my opinion out of it since the truth is in the photos.
I'm happy to be here.

Thank you I have really been deep diving into the subject of lapidary blades and CVD diamonds over the past year and I'm happy to hear that people find those kinds of videos to be helpful. I plan on going to a few shows this year over on the westside of the state so maybe our path will cross at some point.

Welcome aboard from Virginia! Glad to have you! Your space is so orderly!! Thank you for noticing that. I try to keep my work spaces pretty clean and organized. Just did a quick check of your site. I have run across that one bogus site you discussed.
And, I liked that rock ID article.
Especially liked this:
1. The weird looking rock you have that’s magnetic and you think is a meteorite is not a meteorite. 2. The green rock you found is not jade. 3. The rock you found with little golden specs on it is not gold. 4. The egg shaped rock you found is not a petrified dinosaur egg. 5. The small clear rock you found is not a diamond. 6. The rock you found with banding on it is not necessary petrified wood. 7. The rock you found that looks like a tooth, bird, lizard, fish or some other living thing is not a petrified version of that. 8. The rock you found with what appears to be a dinosaur track on it just looks like that and was not stepped on by a dinosaur. 9. The rock that looks like poop is very likely not coprolite. 10. The chipped up agate, jasper or obsidian you found is very likely not a native American artifact.
