I am looking for your recommendations for a book on rock ID and particular information. I have the book "Rockhounding for Beginners" by Lars Johnson and find it very informative, but not as complete as I would like. I would like to find something similar but more expansive. I also have some books that are the National Geographic style book but I find them more attuned to mineral composition style and very little on rocks. A book that is expansive on the varying types of rocks and their applications to lapidary interests is what I need. If you have seen the book "Rockhounding for Beginners" that I mentioned, a larger content book is what I seek. If you have experience with such a book, please let me know. I know there are tons of books out there but I can't seem to find the right one for me. I've spent a bunch of money on the geology style books so I don't want to waste anymore money on school type books. No offense to geology classes.
If you have some recommendations I'd love to hear your input and your personal opinions on the books.
Thanks,
Jim

Search for a used copy of John Sinkankas's "Gem Cutting." It's old and (I think) out of print, but it's a treasure trove of valuable lapidary information. It may be a little on the "textbooky" side but Schumann's "Gemstones of the World" will always have a place on my bookshelf.

Found two of the books and ordered them. Thanks for your input and suggestions.
