I bought an auction lot of tumbling media 20+ years ago and it came with a 1lb zip lock bag labeled Iron oxide polish. It is red-ish and feels like ~1200 grit. Any thoughts on using this instead of Tin oxide or aluminum oxide?

if you mix it with epoxy you can use it to fill holes, pits, or fractures in dark colored stones. Its color is capable of resisting removal from anything IIRC.

I think it's mainly used as a metal polish, usually in bar form (jeweler's rouge).

It will most likely stain any lighter colored rocks. I would use it with caution.
