Hi, I'm new. I'm from the Philippines. I've always been fascinated by rocks. I got my NatGeo hobby tumbler today and saw how little grit was in the box. I know you're supposed to run Stage 1 a couple of times so I put off starting until I get more grit.
Now my problem is that I can only find silicon carbide #46 and aluminum oxide #60. Which of these should I get?

Hi chelli. Welcome to the forum. Silicon carbide grit will work the best for stage 1.

If those are my only two choices I pick the 46 S/C for sure. A/O is not good at removing rough spots in stage one.

As they said above, 46 Silcone carbide for stage one between those choices. Once you get it smooth with no cracks then you switch to Aluminum Oxide.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but 46 silicon carbide if left to roll in stage 1 for a long period of time would break down finer and finer even past stage 2 (220) and stage 3 (500), no?
