I got an inexpensive 24x24" light box and used it for first time with my cellphone. Got all kinds of annoying reflections of cellphone and tripod it was on. In some photos even the little red friction ring underneath the tripod screw shows on the rock! Just have to learn and gradually get better. Many of these are problem materials and don't have a first rate shine. Tin oxide, no burnish run. Most of these I collected. The hematite was purchased. This shows how the 3 pieces of psilomelane on left vs. hematite. I found out in the polish test last year tin ox not the best for hematite. These are iron oxide/jasper/hematite mixed from Minnesota. That big one is one of my favs. Even though it looks fractured up, all those fractures are solid and healed. Here's more of the psilomelane-laded rocks from the California desert. I really like this material. Chert from Oklahoma/Arkansas/Missouri/Kansas junction area. The one on the left is one of the most complex pieces I've ever found and some parts in it seem agatey. Misc. green rocks. The lower middle one might look like jade, but it isn't. Something from Lake Superior shore. Most don't shine this nicely. This one is just under 2lbs and also from the beach near Carlsbad, California.

love love love the jasper/hematite rock you've got there! Very interesting. Also the green rocks are pretty darn cool - green is one of my favs.
