Weird. My genie was making strange sounds. Then the end bolt on the left side just dropped into my pan as it was almost stopped (thank goodness). I figured that solved my problem, but no. When I turn it on, as it starts up, it makes a heavy metallic dropping thump sound. For some reason, it makes me think of a clutch. Also, my 220 wheel sometimes continues to spin when I turn it off. (I know what that is, but I put the bolt on tight.) The sound happens even after I replaced and tightened the bolt. Do I just need to tighten the wheels spaces up? It hasn't done it till today.
I took a video. If I can figure out how to get it from my phone to youtube, I'll post it, but I'm hoping this sounds familiar to someone.
Here is the video. I figured out how to do it.

Not good. Sounds like a motor bearing just went to hell. Also check that 220 wheel to see if it spins freely when you hold the other wheels in place. Perhaps the hub broke free of the spacer? I hope its an easy (cheap) fix.

The video shows your wheels starting separately even though they are on the same shaft. You need to remove the left side adaptor and tighten the wheels and you will be fine.

I saw the wheels starting at different rates too. Fingers crossed Lee's fix is the solution!!

Just an FYI - you may have to rebalance your wheels since they've been spinning independently on the adapter.

I have been wondering how it's going to work with older Genie's and the new motor they've started using. Anyone know if the new motor will be able to be put on the older machines?

khara that's a good question, I hope they had the new motor built to fit the adaptors.

Rockoonz Lee, glad I got the left side off- which wasn't easy. There was some rust developing near the motor on the shaft. I was able to knock it down with green scotchbrite and oil it -just a thin layer. Glad it didn't get any worse! I would never get that side off!
Seems that the trouble has been disappeared. Thank you for your help.

$1400 for an upgrade kit! Wow! You can buy a brand new genie for 2200 and it comes with new wheels!

That must be it ;-) The 3/4" plywood makes it worth the price! I wonder if the "upgrade kit" is really just a brand new genie without wheels. Would be about right for the price
