I was thinking we should start up the Wire Wrapper's challenge again. Basically, every moth there will be a theme, usually specific to the month or season. The challenge is to come up with something that somehow reminds you of the theme. Or, another type theme? I'm open to suggestions.
Here is a link to one of the old challenges.

Well, there's no good reason NOT to do it! This will be a new type of challenge for me.

I like it. I'm too tired tonight for much of anything else to say...but I'll be sure to get involved.

I like the idea. As with the cabbing contest it’s good to have a spur to get moving, a theme, and a deadline. Makes for good practice and I make something I wouldn’t normally have made.

I agree with khara , and am willing to TRY. Sounds like a good way to get/keep us all motivated to do something different.
Patty......not quite sure what she's agreeing to

No worries, liveoak- it's strictly low stress. Just a theme and do it if you want to. No pressure, no commitment.
The crux is- what types of themes should we have and who decides them?

I like low stress
Your example of Christmas & coal was terrific (and I need to remember that one for next year).
Seems too obvious to say a "spring" theme, since in my life anyway spring feels like it's sprung.
HOWEVER what the heck is a spring themed wrap look like ??
BUT, now that I think of it, any theme is all in the imagination of the maker !
So, I'll throw out "spring" as an idea.

I think we can start for the month of March- which is also St Patrick's Day. So, green and whatever else would work, too. That way a Spring theme is still available for another month.
But- what about technique challenges?? Is it too much to throw in a technique challenge, too. Say weaving one month, coils another month, sculpting, border wrap, heady wrap, beaded, colored wire, etc.

I like the technique challenge idea. GREEN sounds to me like a material (cab) not the wrap. ALTHOUGH, I have tortured myself with green patinas, heck I even bought the book (not like that helped).

I like the idea of including a technique aspect because that becomes the main challenge focus. Definitely a lot of theme options come to mind just considering wrap techniques, wire shape, incorporating additional materials, cab shape or size, seasonal timing, etc. As far as who chooses the next theme…. How about the person that chose the current theme at the end of the month chooses the person/wrap to choose the next theme? They could even make that choice in any number of random ways if they didn’t want to “choose”. Or if we want totally random, whoever among the current participants has the next closest birthday?

Awesome!
I will tell you guys that the last one fell apart for lack of participation, so if you agree to do it, I do hope you will try your hardest to get one in. You have a month to do it. Remember- It's not a competition! Don't let your skill level hold you back.
As we get closer to March- Let's flesh out the challenge theme more.
Feel free to continue to post your thoughts and ideas.

I really like khara's thoughts about "shapes"- that would allow even more creativity on the wraps. A shape would be less intimidating for entry level wrappers (like me) .
But certainly I would think the themes could evolve in most any direction as the challenge progresses.
The only idea I can come up with for who chooses the monthly challenge, is to make a list of entrants at the beginning (now), and like roaming wire, it works that when you're name comes up, it's your turn to choose. ( Just don't put my name first ). But of course Tela is first . And as other people get interested, their name just goes at the bottom of the list.
Easy Peasy

I like your idea for the list of theme pickers. I think that's the way to go.
There is no reason why we can't have a more complicated theme, like green AND round with weaving for St Patty's day. Or, whatever.

I remember with the FCC cab contest there were a few months for awhile with only one or two entries, I "won" a couple of those, LOL. We just had to power through and it survived, I even posted a few contest threads when the person who started them back then had bad internet periods. I will not commit all in at this time, but Elizabeth did find the box with the largish roll of jewelers brass square wire, and I do need to break out and clean up our rolling mill for making 1/2 round. I think I even know where the "good pliers" are...

We'd LOVE for you AND Elizabeth to join in. Hope you can.

Rockoonz That’s interesting you are rolling your own half round. I only thought of using a rolling mill to put texture on a plate. What material do you start with to turn into half round? And does your mill have several gauge sizes? And does it do others as well like round or square?

I'd like to keep this on track for the challenge. Thanks.
