I saw this on line and bought it - I went shopping for rhyolite cabs this morning - AND bought this tiny Thunderegg! It arrived today, and is even more than I hoped for! I can see down into the agate, the outer shell is present, I'm ecstatic! I'll have to get Sharon to take some photos for me! The Thunderegg is Three Eighths of an inch in diameter!
The cab is well made - too bad the cutter didn't know what he had, but he got most of it!

I'm pretty positive it's rainforest "jasper" from Queensland, Australia. I would have sent you one for free had I known you wanted one.

Not any piece will do. It needs that shape - I wish I was young and could fill out the section on Australian t-eggs.

Thanks rockjunquie , you've made my day. Google Earth is almost (well, not really ) as good as being there. So Mt Hay is a typical rhyolite dome rising 625 feet above the ground. It had several slides, and they are mining one of them? It looks like they still have most of the material left. The cristobalite spherulites began forming in the magma chamber, trapped water expanded as they were extruded to the surface. shockwaves converted silica crystals into silica gel which was sucked into the chambers as steam turned back to water. I have never seen anyone utilize Google earth quite as well as you do.

1dave, I have some cabs made from material mined in the early years. I will make some pics if helpful. This material is very nice.

I think we have some of the rainforest rhyolite as well, I had forgotten that it was from Aussie land, possibly had it a little confused with spiderweb from Oregon, even though their only real similarity is being both tiny thundereggs in flow material. The cab is pretty cool.
