Join us for a sunny fun day in the desert for the Victor Valley Gem And Mineral Club’s annual tailgate show. Lapidary Dave from YouTube will be here along with members of our great club and lots of vendors. I will also be leading the field trip for The tri-colored marble which is just on the other side of the mountain from the tailgate! Be there or be square! A bump for the club! Tailgate starts tomorrow and the field trip for the tri colored marble will be 4WD required, recent rains have made a tough road even tougher. I will post some pics here of the field trip, tailgate, and some of our finds at the Hillis marble quarry and from the tailgate. Hope to see ya there!

Well that was fun! Tailgate seemed to be a big success and we added a bunch of new members to the club to boot. It was tough to remember to snap some pics; I should have got more pics of the vendors and material available but I did manage to get some at random times over the weekend. The weekend started with a harrowing 4WD trip to the tri-color marble quarry on Friday to make sure it was accessible and guess what? I does rain in the Mojave and rain it did, hard. A quick scramble to grab some marble and we were quickly on our way back to find everyone racing to cover their tables and firewood up because it was still raining… and hard at that. At least the wind stopped for the day.
Saturday began with setting up the field trip sign and getting everyone lined up and signed in for the trip. I would have never been able to lead the trip without the gracious loan of a 4WD Exterra from our club president. Here’s a few pics from the trip:

. Everyone was happy with the location and material; I will add some pics later after I get some pieces cut. At least it didn’t rain Saturday but I did manage to scramble up the hill to get a couple pics of the tailgate and managed to find some pieces of hematite on the way up the hill:

We did manage to purchase some gem bone, AZ rainbow wood, and some other stuff!

Sunday was spent pre-siting the April field trip location: Minneola Rd area for agate, palm root, and whatever else turns up. Sadly I was to busy bucket stuffing to remember to get pics. Overall a fun yet exhausting weekend. Can’t wait for next year lol! Thanks for reading!

Here is some of the Tri Color. This is really a brecciated mix of marble, Dolomite, and altered limestone. Not much saw time lately here and my best pieces are bigger than my 10” saw can handle. Pictured wet to show the colors.
