I’m stumped. Lortone double runs 24/7 with 2, 3 lb. barrels. Same material and volume in each. Machine has been leveled. Some days both barrels are at one end or other. Ok. Not sure how that’s happening, but attributed it to being out of level.
The barrels have never stayed centered.
Here’s the big mystery. Every now and then they are separated, each to their end with space between. HOW?! WHY?!
I'm definitely no expert...and I'm just thinking out loud...I wonder if the rods are out of parallel...or if one might have a slight bow.

Maybe a barrel is slightly out of round. The rubber will flex some, underneath the weight of rock/water inside. Even if you can’t see it. Turn it one way and they separate, turn it 180 and they end up together. Mine are always together, there is the slightest lean to the table they are on, I just roll with it.
I have spent countless hours trying to achieve the "perfect" level on my Thumler's AR-2. They are always at one end or the other. Today I noticed that my one machine had a barrel at each end! Must be something with Earth's rotation
I can't tell if thats some Gneiss Schist, or that Schist is Gneiss. All I know is don't take it for Granite
I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Mine does that too. As long as the aluminum tops are pointing to the sides it won’t hurt anything. You don’t want the nylon bumper hitting the bottom, (rubber)part of the barrel.
I wouldn't worry about it either. My barrels on my 33b always end up at the end opposite the motor. I have even put it at a fairly steep incline and they work their way up it anyway. So now I just let them. One thing you can do to help the nylon washers wear down slower is to take something like a sour cream lid and make a replica washer. So then you put the lid on, metal washer, plastic washer, and then the nut. That way the nylon washer rubs against the plastic instead of metal. You can see what I'm talking about in this little video. I made 2, one for each barrel, just so I don't have to worry about or think about making sure the one with the plastic washer is facing towards the correct end.

There could be a number of reasons for this, so I would not worry about it. It could be that the barrels are not completely round, which would not be surprising considering they are rubber. It could also simply be because of the movements of the rocks inside. Since you have irregular shapes and sizes in there, they will move sround and "push" the barrel around. As far as putting the tumbler level, I actually keep mine off level on purpose, with the moter end a bit lower. This is to "encourage" the barrels to go to the motor side, because the little plastic washer that keeps the barrel from touching the housing is easier to replace on that side. Those washers wear down over time and will need replacing so might as well try to get the easiest one to replace to wear down first :-)
