Hi. I am just firing up my brand new Lortone 33b and have a question about the placement of the barrels on the rollers.
I have placed the barrels on the rollers with the nuts facing outwards (ie one nut is facing towards the motor and the other with the nut facing outwards so that the butt ends are facing each other but about an inch apart).
I started up the motor before placing the barrels on the rollers. Within 30 seconds or so, the barrel closest to the motor "traveled" towards the second barrel until they met and are rolling together.
To be certain that it wasn't because my work surface was tilted, I reversed the orientation of the machine on my bench and tried again. Same result.
Is this normal? My first though was that the barrels touching would wear them out quickly from the outside. But they are going the same speed so maybe it's OK?
Thanks for the help, as always!

Sounds normal. The 33b has a nylon washer on each end. This should protect the lids. Keep it clean since they can grind through the aluminum lid.

That is normal for mine. I checked for level just to be sure.

Now that a day has passed I can see that the plastic washer on the outside end is already being worn away. I put a piece of cardboard under the machine at that end to keep the barrels from pushing against the washer. Seems like it's working. Hope it does as I can't see a way to easily replace that washer. The other one is easy enough.

Hey there, I bought a brand new 33b about two years back, and can confidently say that the barrels do "wander" the tumbler base frequently, and don't worry about the barrels tapping the ends of it either, the nylon washers on the base itself keep the barrels for contacting the metal. My two barrels are almost always flush against each other, but since they are moving the same direction at the same speed, no wearing occurs.

Running my third run on my new 33b. I took the motor cover off.....lot of trapped heat. After I took off the motor cover tho I found the belt to be very lose, might want to ck yours. While running the top of the belt will be curved up between the two pullys if its lose. My barrels always touch.........oh and for whatever reason will migrate to one end then the next day be at the other. I'm about to order shower door rollors, my nylon washers are wearing as well.

Often you have to use shims or something to put the base out of level to deal with this. Know it sounds crazy.
