When I get to the pre-polish stage, after a day or so, I start to see bits of bowl dust in the slurry.
I have no sharp rocks, nothing chipped. Bowl is full to just below the centre volcano, and I have ceramic media and a good mix of rock sizes. Action was good, although the slurry had thickened up quite a bit overnight.
I'm afraid to move on to the polish for fear the rocks won't be ready.
Is this normal? What should I be looking for? I'm not even sure I have the correct amount of grit. Thumler recommends three tablespoons for pre-polish and polish but that seems like too much.
I'm at my wits end. I had a Lot-O a long time ago when I had ZERO idea of what I was doing and had no issues getting a nice polish.

You could try coating the inside of the bowl with flexseal rubber

While I know it isn't hurting the rocks...I know it's the bowl encountering wear...

You could try coating the inside of the bowl with flexseal rubber I tried using Flex Seal spray on a vibe bowl. The rocks chewed it up immediately and I had bits of Flex Seal in all the little nooks and crannies of the stones. Major mess.

My UV-18 does the same thing. While I know it isn't hurting the rocks...I know it's the bowl encountering wear... OK, so that's good to know. I was feeling like it would prevent the rocks from polishing. I worried the same thing...then I realized it's little pieces of the plastic bowl. If the sides of the bowl aren't going to damage the tumbles, then little pieces won't either...or at least it hasn't from what I've seen...or heard from others who have had the same issue.
