Well, it's a sad day in my house...Lot-o motor failed on me yesterday. Not really sure what happened. Was trucking along, went to check on it and it's dead in the water. Strong burning smell and the motor is HOT. Hadn't noticed anything different about the way it was running although it had sat for about a month while I waited to get enough rocks for a batch. I'm a month out of warranty, but hoping that because it was a Christmas gift they'll honor a March 25 end date. If not, I guess I wait on another motor and hope it doesn't happen again. I've seen a couple of threads where Belt has either been very helpful, or not so much. Here's hoping for helpful!

Oh nooo!! That’s horrible. I’m sorry to hear that. Praying they will honor the warranty and help you out.

I hope you can salvage the rocks in that batch. If they don't honor the warranty then I see motors are not cheap ($126 at RockShed but sold out). This may be time to consider that MiniSonic. I'm still in the early learning curve on mine (and tumbling in general) but my initial impressions are favorable! Good luck!

Sad to hear of another victim of bad motors. If they don't replace under warranty, here is a link to a description I wrote up for using an alternative motor that cost about $40. Requires some elbow grease to make changes. I have been running the new motor for about 10 weeks now and it is still running great. The Rock Shed has been running the same motor off and on since last summer without issues (last time I checked in January). forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/101261/lot-tumbler-motor-modificationsChuck at Drumond Island Rocks has been running the same motor modification for probably a month or more without issues. Here is a link to his original post. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/101420/lot-motor-concrete-videoHope it works out well and you get a new motor under warranty.

I was able to get them out, rinsed and in a bucket of water for now. It had only been running a few hours when that happened so they weren't thickly covered. I'm already thinking about that mini sonic lol, but will try a new motor first - I do really like the lot-o. Sad to hear of another victim of bad motors. I did come across this info in my readings. My hubby is handy so he'd be able to do alterations if needed. Here's hoping whoever answers the phone tomorrow got out of bed on the right side!

Sorry to hear this. I also hope they honor the warranty. I think the bigger issue is why such a quick failure? Was this a Fasco motor? I'm worried that even if they send you a new motor it is still not going to solve the true issue. THere is a batch of bad motors out there. I work manufacturing so I understand the supply chain issues currently strangling most manufacturers but this does not give them an excuse to put out garbage. Hope all works out for you. (I have a new mini sonic and have been very pleased with it so far).

I hope so too...I'll have to check on the existing motor to see what brand (they should come with lot numbers, I think??) hopefully that'll be different - leaning more and more towards that mini!

GREAT NEWS! They are honoring the warranty! I just need to send the motor back and they'll replace it. Thank the lord! I did purchase a loratone 3A because I've got two tumblers moving stage 1, but nothing moving later stages (as I wait on the vibe motor). So in an attempt to keep on trucking with tumbling I'm now the proud owner of a Nat Geo, Thumlers and Loratone...

She didn't even hesitate once I mentioned I didn't get it until Christmas day. Grateful.

Happy to report that I'm vibin' once again different motor, but installed easily and the little fans fell right in place. Hopefully in about 5 days I'll have a nice batch of round and shiny rocks to share.

It's like they were tribbles or something. Glad to hear of the warranty replacement. My obsession started about this time last year with a single 1.5 lb tumbler from 1977 that I got used over 30 years ago. It was like a virus that I had contracted mildly back then, then BAM! Full blown last March. LOL
