My name is Doug and and my little family began collecting rocks and fossils in mid 2021. I had a small tumbler as a kid so picked up a Nat Geo 1lb tumbler. We piddled around with it off and on until mid last year, when the bug hit. First I picked up a wire jewelry 3lb double tumbler (wish I’d gotten a thumbler). Then a 7” tile saw and most recently, a ray-tech vibe 5. I really want a Rebel 17 tumbler but it’ll have to wait till funds allow. We figured now is a good time to join a forum so am trying this one. I know I need to follow the steps to post pictures and update my profile next, but I mostly use my iPhone and it will take time to figure out the steps. Thanks and we’re looking forward to learning as much as we can here!

Welcome from California.
You have choices for uploading photos. Cloudinary is one, and there is a detailed tutorial here somewhere.
I use Flickr because it is easy. There are others.

I’ll figure it all out eventually. Probably after I get my wife to assist. She’s a computer geek (dba for the VA). But only after I completely frustrate my own non-techi attempts to figure it out. I’m stubborn like that. D-

Thanks and we’re looking forward to learning as much as we can here! I forgot to mention (intentionally, but why not), I’m an avid ground based RC fanatic for the last 4 years. Arrma is my brand. I used to be a life long cyclist, racing mountain bikes in the Santa Cruz mountains and track bikes at the San Jose, CA, Heller park Velodrome. But I broke my neck slowly but surly over the years until I had c2-7 fused in 2016. My spine continued to degrade so I’ll never competitively, or otherwise, ride again. RC cars was the answer to my going nuts after I was banned from the bike. Gets me outdoors and I can’t hurt myself, except the few times I jumped my cars into my face. It happens you know.

Hey Doug! Welcome to the forum from South Dakota! I use the Tapatalk app a LOT on my phone to post pictures. No cloudinary necessary. Tapatalk does have a free version...but the picture size is limited, as well as the number of pictures you can post in a month's time. Just another way to post pics! If "she who must be obeyed" is able to help you out with the setup of Cloudinary, you wouldn't really need Tapatalk.

Probably my biggest issue is I don’t use a desktop anymore. Think I’ll dust it off and see if it still runs. My wife is my best friend (not my boss lol) and we constantly work together to make it through life. We’ve only been together for a bit over three years, but in that timeframe have fought her breast cancer for 18 months and won, had a two-year intense child custody battle for her daughter and won, as well as six fairly major surgeries between the two of us. We’re in our early 50s and have had her 10 year old crazy daughter full time since Oct. 2021. It’s been an interesting few years, but I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

I loved hearing that about y'alls relationship! (Not the tough parts...just the "partnership" part!) I make up a lot of crap about my wife on here...just to make a joke. She's definitely got the heart of a saint to put with me! LOL

Welcome from Missouri. The Cloudinary works well for photos. I had some issues with videos when I started and I need to try that again to see if I can get it to work now.

Sweet it freakin’ worked! Sorry about the double. This is a chunk of petrified wood I’ve been tumbling for months. It’s almost done, just has to finish the polish stages.

Thanks for the welcomes y’all! We’re in south central Texas. Far north San Antonio, bout an hour south of Austin. We collect rock from all over Texas. If we can’t get there, we go to rock and landscaping yards.

Welcome to RTH from Virginia.
Glad to see the pictures of your lovely tumble!
Thank you for speaking so well of your wife. Nothing makes me happier than hearing about a successful relationship. May your bond continue to be strong.

Welcome from Washington State Nice! We go to Washington state every summer midway through my stepdaughter’s visitation with her alcoholic father, just to make sure everything‘s OK. It’s in the court documents so he can’t stop us lol. We have her for a long weekend and hit the beaches to hunt rocks. This year though we want to find somewhere else to look within an hour or two drive from Paulsboro, I think it’s called. We also want to visit a lapidary shop or two. We don’t seem to have many of those around the San Antonio area, at least that I can find.
