Below are some photos of Favosites (Charlevoix Stones) that I have polished in the last year or so. Most of these were probably found in Petoskey, Michigan but the smaller ones could have come from Charlevoix (Fisherman's Island State Park). Group photo and closeups of some are below. Largest one I have found that I could polish. Most of these don't polish well. Kind of like Petoskey Stones. Other side of large one. Close up of large one. This is the one in the lower left of the group photo. This one is the in the upper right-hand corner of the group photo. Only one I have seen with the dark bands in it. Other side of the one above. This one didn't come from a slab. It was a small rock that I kept working on until it was almost round cab and then flattened the backside. Hope you enjoy the pics, Chris

Very cool! Excellent shine!! Did you use dry media to polish? I’ve heard that’s a good choice for Petosky stones…I’ve collected enough, I think I’ve got enough to start a batch.
Thanks for sharing your beauties!

Thanks for sharing your beauties! Thanks. I meant to include in the post that I did all of these on a Kingsley North cabber. I use a 14,000 and 50,000 grit wheel rather than polishing with diamond compound. I haven't tried to tumble the Charlevoix or Petoskey stones yet. The Petoskey Stones, and probably the Charlevoix stones will undercut slightly on the softer material and you won't get as good a shine as on the cabber.

Well, I did put the one round cab in there. Glad you enjoyed them. Most people use silver settings or wraps for Petoskey stones and that probably applies to the Charlevoix stones as well as the color is about the same. Since you are into wrapping, do you think the silver goes best rather than gold or copper?

Since you are into wrapping, do you think the silver goes best rather than gold or copper? There are certain tones of brown, which in my mind, only work well with a copper patina color. With the predominant color in these being a lighter tan, I can see it working well with either silver or copper patina. Personally, I think I'd aim toward wrapping that cab in a silver. I know opinions will vary...but I don't see gold working visually as well as copper patina or silver. Edit - Looking at the pics again...it really isn't a "tan" per se which is predominant...but I still stand by what I was thinking! LOL

Very nice. There used to be quite a bit on Lake Superior beaches. It is UV reactive and has become a rare find. Maybe when the ice goes, I will go looking, I am inspired by your results.

I haven't tried but suspect they are similar to Petoskey Stones if done in a tumbler (hard to do). I think people use a dry media when they tumble the Petoskey Stones. Did mine on a cabbing machine . It takes a while.
