I’ve been trying to tumbler some softer rocks. They go through the first three stages fine but when I get tot he polish stage all the corners get really rough, almost as if they are being eatin up by the ceramic media. I’ve tried plastic pellets from the Rock Shed before but they are such a Royal pain to deal with. Anyone have a suggestion for a media that is softer than ceramic but easier to deal with than standard plastic pellets?

To protect the rocks in a rotary during polish I would thicken the water with enough sugar to give it the consistency of olive oil. And by the way some soft rocks just don't take well to tumble polishing easily. Mohs 7 rocks almost always take a polish, Mohs 5 obsidian can be a challenge depending on tumbler and other conditions.

Use plastic beads from Kingsley-North, they float and are super easy to deal with. The ones from Rock Shed were thrown away after just one use years ago.
